Model: Deco XE5300
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.4.5 Build 20241129 Rel. 44718

Hi all,

I have a Deco mesh set up with 3 devices and it works great. My issue is the Apple homekit stuff has been dropping out and driving me nuts lately. So I spoke to some one and they said my issue is the 2.4 is not seperated from the 6ghz that's what's causing my issues. I have 90 devices on the network and want to take and lock in 2.4 for all these Apple Homekit devices on the existing network and then create a secondary one for all the other devices. I've poked around but can't seem to figure out how to do it, maybe I can't see the forest through the trees on this one. Any help would be GREATLY apprecaited.

Hello John,  What you want to look for is the IoT Network feature (Open App > More > IoT Network). When setting this network up you can specifiy 2.4GHz only.  This will allow you to isolate these devices.

To be clear the 6GHz is not part of the combined SSID/Network.  This is because 6GHz only support WPA3 and 2.4GHz and 5GHZ support WPA2 or a blend of WPA2/WPA3.  So for the combined SSID its only 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHz.

Alternatively you can also use the perfered band feature if you do not want to setup a IoT network and have to reconfigure your devices.  To use this feature find one of the devices in question inside the Client List and tap on it.  Tap the Connection Preference option then under Preferred band change it to 2.4 GHz.  Repeat for each device you want to set to 2.4 GHz only and that should solve the concern, without reconfiguring any devices.

@Carl So I can go either way?

Specify the 2.4 only for the existing network thats in place. And then set up a new 5GHz network (in the app for the same router) for the all other devices that aren't the "smart home" devices so they can run at higher speeds.

Or go in to the app and pick each smart home device and change the preffered band for that item.

Did I understand you properly?

 Thanks Carl

That will work too.  You can set the main network to be only 2.4 GHz and then set up an IoT network to be 5 Ghz only.

the other option instead of having to setup a new network is to use the prefered band feature which keeps everything on a single network but you basically lock the client to a specific band.
