Description
After updating the Deco M9 Plus Firmware to 1.8.1, some satellite units may no longer connect to the nearest Deco M9 Plus. For example, prior to firmware 1.8.1, a Deco X50-Outdoor would always automatically connect to the nearest Deco M9 Plus; however, after the firmware upgrade, the satellite Deco's signal is significantly weakened, and remains connected only to the main Deco — even with "Connection Preference" assigned to the nearest Deco M9 Plus.

The latest official Deco M9 Plus Firmware Version 1.9.1 has fixed the reported behavior. We highly encourage everyone to ensure your Decos are up-to-date: Firmware Download for Deco M9 Plus

@СправкаFixDecoApp Yes, as you assumed, the two Decos that couldn't be updated via cable were updated via Wi-Fi. Now all the Decos are connected to each other, but the iOS app isn't working (it shows all three as disconnected), and I can't change the connection mode between them from the web interface.

Sorry for the late reply. Going to have you open up two different tickets. 1st ticket give them the link to this post. Let them know that two of your units that were hardwired wouldn't update to the beta firmware till you made them both wireless and show them the before and after image
2nd ticket (Before you open it make sure you have the most up to date deco app) Go over the display issues your having and let them know because your devices show as offline you are unable to update any settings
Follow the instructions below to open up both tickets.
1. Email support at support.usa@tp-link.com.
2. Include the model number of your Deco router, as well as the hardware and firmware versions.
3. Describe the issues you are facing and send the email.
4. Within a few minutes, you will receive an automated response with a TKID number.
5. Upon receiving this email, please access the Deco web UI by entering "tplinkdeco.net" in your browser. Navigate to Advanced > System > System Log, select "ALL" in the log type, and save the file to your local computer. Then, reply to the email you just received, attach the log file, and kindly request that your ticket be escalated to a senior engineer for further assistance.

Is there any update on a real fix for this firmware problem? I'm still using 1.6.4 with the network security off but the problem with 1.8.1 looks even a bigger problem to even try this firmware update.

Hi @Fossil84,
The Beta Firmware at the top of this thread is intended to address the concern with Poor Signal on Satellite Deco Nodes for Deco M9 Plus V2 units that had the original 1.8.1 firmware installed. This beta firmware was a different build from the original 1.8.1 and contained fixes for the poor satellite signal behavior.
That said, for Deco M9 Plus V2 users who would like to keep their Mesh System fully up to date, I would recommend updating to the latest firmware build, which is now 1.9.1, and can be found on the product's firmware download page: Download for Deco M9 Plus
