Hello,

I need to be able to increase the MTU of my Deco X55 v1.6 in Access Point mode on my local network to match my gateway and other devices.  I've searched the forums, and checked that my devices are in fact updated to the latest firmware version, but there are no MTU options in any of the menus I can find via Android App nor via the Web UI.

If/when I have ethernet attached network devices/clients attached via the ethernet pass-thru (switch/hub?) ports on the back of the X55 that are configured to use a larger MTU setting (>1500) those large packets get dropped and the connections hang.  I know I could reduce my overall MTU network-wide, but that isn't feasible nor what I'd prefer to do.  My gateway is configured for an MTU of 9212 bytes, and the Deco X55 drops large packets on the ethernet side -- I suspect the WiFi side would also be limited to 1500 bytes.

There were a few posts back in 2022, but I've not found any specific info about this (Access Point mode specifically) recently on the forums.

Are there plans to enable MTU settings up to ~9212 for Deco devices in Access Point mode in a future firmware update?

Thanks in advance!

The following was taken from this post. https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1842/

4. In AP mode, since all the clients are managed by the root router, some advanced features will not be available in the Deco app, including Antivirus, Parental Controls, Port Forwarding, Address Reservation, TP-Link DDNS, etc.

As i do not work for tp-link I have no idea if they have plans to allow these options in AP mode,

  @HelpFixDecoApp

Thanks.  All you mentioned -- Antivirus, Parental Controls, Port Forwarding, Address Reservation, TP-Link DDNS are all software options.

MTU is a hardware network interface setting.  I would hope that they know the difference, and should be able to include the MTU option if the hardware supports it.

  @rtw819 If this is available in router mode, can you turn Jumbo packets on then change router mode to AP mode.  (Crossing fingers the MTU setting does not reset)...

Sorry for not noticing this sooner. If you look at the following chart https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/kb/detail/412754

We can use your firmware version to see what platform version your deco firmware is on. If we look for your firmware version 1.6.x we can see your on platform version 1.6.0 as show below

You wont be able to mess with the MTU settings till they release version 1.7x  firmware for your deco which will bump you up to platform version 1.7.0/1.8.0 as shown below.

  @rtw819

Hi, thank you very much for your feedback.

I'm afraid there hasn't been a plan to increase the MTU size.

In router mode, users are allowed to customize the MTU size, but it is up to 1500 bytes. In AP mode, it would automatically follow the MTU size of the network gateway as long as its MTU is below 1500 bytes. A frame size of 1500 bytes is a recommended industry standard, commonly used in home network routers to maximize efficiency and throughput.

For a similar discussion, you could refer to  https://community.cisco.com/t5/other-network-architecture-subjects/why-the-mtu-size-is-1500/td-p/105418

Thanks a lot and best regards.
