Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.6.7 Build 25031412 Rel. 48241

Help - we lose connectivity, wired and wireless all throughout the day. If I disconnect the Deco from the network I'm able to work connected with no problem, so I know its something to do with the mesh.

There are plenty more errors than that in the logs.

Hi, would Deco turn red during the disconnection?

It is suggested to try to set Deco into "Access Point" mode:

How to set up Deco to work in Access Point mode

Please also disable "EasyMesh" under Deco APP>More>Advanced.

By the way, may I know your internet service provider? How about the model number of the ISP-provided router/gateway?

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Thank you for responding.

It absolutely turns red when we lose the connection.

Xfinity is our ISP using an Arris Surfboard s33v2. I can provide more logs if necessary. I'm not using a wifi router so I'm not sure I can use AP mode.

Yes, you can use a TP-Link Deco in Access Point (AP) mode with a modem that does not have built-in Wi-Fi. In AP mode, the Deco essentially acts as a wireless access point, extending the network of your existing modem/router. You would connect the Deco to your modem via Ethernet, and it will create its own Wi-Fi network, even if the modem itself doesn't broadcast Wi-Fi.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

  • AP Mode:

When you set the Deco to AP mode, it doesn't function as a primary router. Instead, it receives an internet connection from your existing modem (or router) via Ethernet and then creates its own Wi-Fi network for your devices to connect to.

  • Modem without Wi-Fi:

Many internet service providers (ISPs) provide modems that only handle the internet connection and don't have built-in Wi-Fi capabilities. In this case, you would connect the Deco to the modem via Ethernet, and the Deco would then provide the Wi-Fi.

  • Deco's Role:

The Deco in AP mode essentially takes the internet signal from the modem and broadcasts it wirelessly. You can then connect your devices (phones, laptops, etc.) to the Deco's Wi-Fi network.

  • Benefits:

This setup allows you to have a stronger, more reliable Wi-Fi network, especially if your modem's built-in Wi-Fi is weak or limited.
