Model: Archer AX55
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.1.2 Build 20241014 rel.59971(5553)

I have a huge USB External Seagate (5TB) Disk hooked to my Archer Ax55, and I mainly use that for backup of laptops on my home network.

But, I am experimenting with the "Media Sharing" supported by the AX55 router.  I believe that it uses the DLAN protocol.  I am literally RIP'ing old CD's and trying to get the Music into the "Media sharing" portion of the disk.  The motivation for this experimentation is I am thinking of getting a "network audio streaming" device in my living room that will use the DLAN interface to access the huge number of CD's that I own.  (Yes, as a matter of fact, I am old-school).

I need information on populating the "Media sharing" area exposed by the router as the only way I can find to populate the "Media Sharing" interface, is by copying the music to the usual "file system sharing" interface, and then it gets exposed by the router in a read-only fashion in the "Media Sharing" interface.

It seems a little buggy as the Music in the two interfaces do not match.

I would very much appreciate an article on this for tips and tricks, or "best known methods"?

For that matter, I think that I will report what bugs I see to TP-LINK, but, I may be incorrect on this as I am flying blind.

Hello@Paul_JR ,

Welcome to our community.

To enable and access the USB drive attached to the Router, please log in the router's web management interface and go to Advanced > USB > USB storage device. Enable the drive that you want to share to the network.
After that, you should be able to access the USB Sharing folders over the network, here are the instructions for accessing the USB Sharing from different client device:
    1) How to access USB storage device on the TP-Link Routers from Windows or Mac OS
    2) How to access my USB storage device on the TP-Link Routers from my Android and iOS phone
If you wish to access the drive remotely, make sure to enable Internet FTP as well.

If you're experiencing trouble detecting or accessing the USB drive on the router,  please refer to this FAQ: Can't access my USB drive plugged into TP-Link router

@Joseph-TP to clarify, the USB storage support in tp-link routers consists of TWO interfaces:  One is the file system support and that is where Samba is used.  This allows discs hanging off a network to mimic local discs.  All file system operations are supported: creating files and folder, reading files, getting contents of folders, writing files, removing files and folders & etc.

The Second interface is the one I have questions with and that is the Media Sharing interface.  This is where DLAN support is.

Can you please focus your reply to my issue on the Media sharing interface?  Not on USB storage in general, or the filesystem interface.  I need help with the DLAN / Media sharing interface.

Hi@Paul_JR ,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Do you mean the DLNA devices?

You can refer to Media Sharing part of Archer AX55(US)_V4.6_User Guide (start from page 43).

@Joseph-TP Sorry about my typo.  Yes, I meant DLNA, not DLAN media device.  And, thank you for the pointer to the brief discussion of Media sharing in the user guide.  This is exactly the functionality that I need more information on.

That discussion in the User Guide only provides a minimum amount of information.  Some questions that I have is how to add new music to the media device?  How to remove old music from the media device?  There does not appear to be any explanation for why the media shared device seems to be read-only.  In my case, the Music folder at the root of the file system share reflects the Music folder of the media share.

Finally, one important question is at the root of the file system share is a hidden directory called ".TPDLNA", in this is the reflection of the files that are shared in the Media share.  But, I am not sure,  I've not found any documentation for this.  Do you know of any additional sources for the Media Share on the AX55 router - such as the questions that I have raised?
