TP-Link UB500 stops Dell from powering on / booting
TP-Link UB500 stops Dell from powering on / booting
Our office got 6x new Dell computers. When the UB500 adapter is installed the Dell computer will not power on or boot normally. We get a slow blinking white light on the power button.
1) Unplugging the UB500 will result in the Dell computer powering up and booting right away!
2) If the UB500 is left plugged in...the computer might power up and boot after several hours or the next day
We have contacted dell support and they checked the Dell BIOS but so far have not been able to resolve the issue.
Items they checked included:
1) Latestes Dell BIOS 1.8.2
2) BIOS boot order
3) WAN & LAN enabled on boot
The Dell computers are brand new - DELL DESKTOPS DELL PRO MICRO QCM1250 35W TPM 16GB 256GBSSD INTEG NSTND WIN11PRO VPN:1D5HX
Has anyone encountered this problem?

@BigAl4U We are seeing this exact issue, same model Dell. I also noticed if you boot into BIOS while the UB500 is unplugged and then plug the device in, it will crash the PC.

Hello @BigAl4U & @excelbamboo ,
Thanks for contacting our community.
Will your computers go to a blue screen when installing the adapters? There are many reasons if your computer goes to a blue screen when installing TP-Link wireless adapter. It might be caused by software issue that the TP-Link driver is not compatible with the operating system or there is a conflict between the driver and some software/file installed on your computer. It also might be caused by hardware reasons.
A typical case of software issue is the driver installed automatically by Windows OS is not compatible with our TP-Link adapter. In this way, please refer to How to troubleshoot if your computer goes to a blue screen when installing TP-Link wireless adapter to find and delete the incompatible driver.

No Blue Screen. The Dell PC won't post unless the adapter is removed.
Once removed the PC will post and boot. Then you can put the adapter back in and it will work.
The problem is when rebooting for maintenance etc....the Dell PC gets stuck on the post and someone has to physically remove the adapter.

Hello @BigAl4U ,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Please try changing the BIOS boot order, booting the network card last.

@Joseph-TP I can confirm that the same thing happens with a newly purchased UB500 and a Lenovo Legion 7 16IRX9. I have disabled the built-in Bluetooth, and even the wi-fi, through both Windows and the machine's BIOS. All options related to booting from network or USB have been disabled in the BIOS. I have updated the UB500's drivers to the latest version and removed the drivers for the built-in Bluetooth. My firmware and other drivers are up-to-date per Lenovo Vantage. Each time the machine attempts to boot it fails with the screen remaining completely black as long as the dongle is plugged in. If I unplug the dongle and reboot then the machine starts normally.

Same problem with a UB500, UB500 Plus and a UB5A. The Dell Pro QCS1250 refuses to post and just power cycles until the USB is removed and then it boots fine.
Also immediately crashes and power cycles if plugged back in.
Did anyone find a solution?

Hello @spikethedog ,
Thanks for contacting our community.
Are you saying that even if you temporarily unplug the UB500, successfully restart the PC, and then plug the UB500 back in, the PC will still crash and automatically restart?
If so, the situation is slightly different. Did this situation begin when you first used the UB500?

Hello @hidingfromvile ,
It seems you're also experiencing a problem where your PC won't restart properly after plugging in the UB500.
If the PC restarts normally after removing the UB500, will it function normally again after restarting and then plugging the UB500 back in?

@BigAl4U Same problem here. With our older PCs we foudn that these dongles prevent BIOS updates installing but with our new Dell QCS1250 PCs they won't even show the post screen while the adapter is connected.
Looks like we might have to buy new bluetooth adapters from a different supplier.

Hi @Joseph-TP,
Just to confirm I the boot order was already set to have the network adapters last.
I have however found that if plugged into a USB 2.0 port the PC will boot although the power light will pluse constantly rather that being in a steady on state.
