Model: Deco BE85
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0

I've been using this 3 unit mesh router for a year and half without issue. I recently changed my ISP from cable to fiber and about an hour after connecting to the fiber modem, the speeds dropped significantly (running speed test from the router app). Cable ISP was 1Gb/40Mb (always consistent) and the fiber ISP is 2Gb/2Gb. When the Deco was first connected, it was operating at the full speed, 2Gb up/down. After approximately 60-90 minutes the speeds dropped to below 50Mb each. QOS and MLO are disabled, IoT is enabled, no NAT. I have rebooted the modem, main router, and satellites several times with no change.

If I connect the Eero router that the fiber company supplied, I get 2Gb/2Gb consistently. Same modem, same ethernet cable. Also, if I reconnect my cable modem, I get the expected speeds (1Gb/40Mb) consistently.

Please help! My next step is to factory reset all three Deco units.

  @Scalptrash

Hi, welcome to the community.

May I know who your fiber ISP is?

When Deco BE85 dropped down to 50mbps, would a power restart temporarily restore the internet speed?

Did "Test Internet Speed" on the Deco also report ~50mbps on the Deco App?

A new firmware-Deco BE85(US)_V2.6_1.2.1 Build 20250731 was released a few days ago. It is also recommended to manually update to this version via the web UI.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

  @David-TP My ISP is T-Mobile (Metronet). I did find and manually update the firmware and that seems to have resolved the issue. It's been consistently getting 2Gb up/down for the last five days.

I would still like to figure out what was causing the issue, just for sanity and if it ever arises again.

A quick restart initiated through the app would not restore the speeds, but if I swapped it out with the ISP provided Eero, and then swapped it back, it would temporarily have full speed and then drop after a short while. I'm assuming a hard reboot/power cycle would have the same effect. For testing internet speeds, I only use the Deco app "Test Internet Speed" option. I do run speed tests from other connected devices, but am aware, especially if on wi-fi, that it won't reflect the true speed.

I am a 25+ year IT professional, so this stuff isn't new to me, but I am also not a network expert. This particular issue is baffling to me. I could see if the speed started slow, but not when it gets full speed and then suddenly drops. Seeing how the firmware resolved the issue, I can only specualte that it was a software issue and not defective hardware. It's bothersome that this could have been an issue since I've owned the devices until this most recent firmware was released. My next step, if the firmware hadn't worked, was to perform a factory reset of all three devices. That may have worked as well, even on the older firmware.
