Model: Archer BE900
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.7

I'm not very hopeful here after seeing similar old posts that were closed with no responses, but here it goes.

I just bought a BE900 and BE550 that I want to use in AP mode (BE900) and the BE550 as a satellite, wiith more BE550s as satellites to come if I can get this working. Everything was fine, both units meshed and were working. Then I switched the BE900 to AP mode and my BE550 satellite disappeared and the front of the unit just has an exclamation mark on the display now. Please don't tell me that I can't use this thing with the satellites in AP mode to extend my internet downstairs. Both new BE units are hardware v2.6 and are running the lastest firemware as of 12/13/25, both updated before I switched to AP mode.

I have an older Deco AXE5300 mesh system in AP mode with 4 satellites attached, using the 6ghz as a wireless backhaul and it's served me well. I only updated to Wifi7 due to the Christmas sales on Amazon, the BE900 was only 320 after discount and the BE550, only about 135 after discount.

I run a pfSense firewall appliance so my AXE5300 Mesh and my old Unifi Wifi5 systems operated in Mesh with satellites and never had issues in AP mode.

  @Wake96C4 I have a single Deco BE95, and also a single Archer AX55 Pro.  My goal was to EasyMesh the AX55 Pro with a Cudy M3000, (which failed miserably).  I also switched the AX55 Pro to AP mode, but when I did the EasyMesh menus disappeared.  Interestingly I switched the Cudy to AP mode but the EasyMesh (beta firmware) menus were still there....

If you can't find the EasyMesh/OneMesh menus after switching the BE900 to AP mode, then unfortunately TP-Link seems to disable that function in the Archer lineup.  (Since I have a single Deco unit and it currently is in router mode, I can not confirm Decos can still mesh in AP mode, but I've definitely read about it so should)....

I would have loved to have gotten a BE900 at the sale price I saw of $399.99.  But alas gotta keep the happy wife for the happy life....

  @jzchen Thanks for the reply.

Yes, the Deco models can work in mesh configuration while in AP mode, it's how I'm running my old AXE5300 system, one base station with 4 satellites spread through my home, mostly for the high speed 6ghz backhaul and switch functionality. Main base station is in my network closet, satellites in the Family Room, Living Room, Office, and Master Bedroom.

Well, I guess if I can't use them as a mesh in AP mode then I'll return them and go back to my older 6E mesh. It's a shame as I was looking forward to upgrading to WiFi 7 for my internal home network while the Christmas prices are in effect. I wanted the increased speed for moving files across the network. I'm glad I only bought two so far as I wanted to make sure I could use then in mesh configuration in AP mode. I was going to order two more today to complete my home network.

Oh, and the Deco units don't work with the newer Wifi7 non-Deco units, no Easyshare option for the legacy 6E Deco units, they only work with other Decos.

  @Wake96C4 There're Deco WiFi 7 models available.  And I've read in documentation that they can mesh while the primary is in AP mode.  Don't know about current pricing, I have been waiting for a new hardware version to be released of the BE95 to buy another.  Alas it has been a very long time at 1.60 and firmware was last updated a long time ago in January....

Sorry about that.  The BE900 has nice dual 5 GHz channels.
