Model: Deco XE75
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.3.0 Build 20250722

My Chromecast TV (Google TV) is frequently dropping from the network. The disconnects are confirmed via the device UI and the Deco app (client shows as "Offline"). This behavior started immediately after migrating from a Nest WiFi Pro setup to a TP-Link Deco mesh. Other stationary clients (LG TV) on the same node remain stable.

Troubleshooting Performed:

  1. Static IP/DHCP: Suspected a conflict due to frequent IP changes. Assigned a DHCP Reservation in the Deco app. Issue persists.

  2. Connection Preferences: Locked the Chromecast to the Main Deco (physically closest).

    • Tested Preferred Band: 5GHz, then reverted to Auto. No improvement.

  3. DNS Isolation: Disabled Pi-hole to rule out blocking/timeout issues; disconnects continued.

  4. Comparative Analysis: An LG TV in a similar location remains connected 100% of the time with Connection Alerts enabled.

Observations & Questions:

  • DHCP Lease Time: I’ve noticed frequent renewals. Is there a way to modify the DHCP lease duration in the Deco UI/App? Options seem very limited.

  • Logs: Is there a way to access the raw system or WiFi interface logs (syslog) for the Deco units to see the deauthentication reason codes?

  • Compatibility: Are there known issues with Chromecast and Deco? Power Saving, Fast Roaming etc? I know some older IoT devices used to run into this issue. Is there some way to confirm this with specific models of Chromecast? BTW I didn't run into this issue with my Nest WiFi Pro

Hi  @bo01ean

Welcome to the community!

Sounds like you've already done a fair bit of legwork trying to pinpoint why your Chromecast is persisting in this behavior.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend turning off Mesh Technology for the Chromecast via the Deco app. You should be able to find it by selecting the Chromecast from the Client List in your Deco app, then scrolling down to "Mesh Technology," tapping it, and toggling it off (if it isn't already).

By the way, is your Deco network using the same SSID and password as your previous Wi-Fi setup (Nest)? If so, you may want to reset the Chromecast's Wi-Fi network settings, or, in the Chromecast network settings, have it "forget" the Wi-Fi network and reconnect to it.

@bo01ean I would try setting up a SSID with just 5 Ghz.  I have several devices that will connect to a SSID with multiple frequencies but won't stay connected.  Putting them on either a dedicated 2.4 or 5 Ghz SSID solved it for me.  Plus, it is so simple to test it out so even if it doesn't solve it, you're not out much time.

  @Ryan

Thanks Ryan. Sorry about the delay, I was on vacation for a bit. I tried your suggestions, unfortunately the device continues to disconnect. I see 2 patterns

Device Auto Reconnects

  • Device initially connects when it boots up, after about 5 mins it looses connectivity (I see a message pop up on my chromecast "WiFi Connection Lost".
  • If I give it a few secs to a minute, it reconnects and the stream resumes
  • This will continue several times until I interverne manually (see below)

Device requires Manual reconnect (this is the most common scenario)

  • Device will lose connectivity after about 5 minutes of operation. I have to intervene, go to chromecast WiFi, find the WiFi SSID, and manually click the connect button
  • Manually reconnecting resolves the issue after 2 - 3 tries and then the device stays connected with no further issues.

Once this happens it stays connected. I have no idea why this happens. Here's what I did so far

  • I turned off randomized Mac on chromecast, I really thought this will solve it (no luck)
  • I've reserved an IP
  • Turned off Mesh technology
  • Set the connection preference to Dining room
  • Tried setting preffered band (but soon reverted to Auto)
  • Enabled alerts, I get the notification each time it loses connectivity

What would be nice is to get some logs from the deco unit, is this possible?

Thanks for the details. Definitely peculiar behavior; however, have you had a chance to try resetting the Chromecast's Wi-Fi connection settings entirely (e.g., forget the network)?

Also, if you enable the IoT network on your Deco and connect the Chromecast to it, does the behavior remain?

You could also try resetting the Chromecast itself, then reconnect to the network and see whether the symptom persists

  @Ryan

I followed the previous instructions to 'forget and rejoin' the network as if the device were new, but the behavior remains the same.

I also have an IoT network SSID enabled; I can try associating the Chromecast with that next. I am trying to avoid a full factory reset of the Chromecast to save myself the hassle of re-configuring all the settings and apps.
