Why does tplink router report clients as 5ghz when the clients have no 5ghz band.
As the title says, I have twenty some devices that are only 2.4ghz band yet router is reporting them as 5ghz. Not that the router is anything to be proud of.
Lousy product with lousy support, though not as bad as the Deco series junk.

Welcome to our community.
May I know what clients you have? Do they support both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz?
If you have enabled Smart Connect, please disable it and set different network names for the router.
Then reconnect clients to WiFi and check if they are still recognized as 5GHz clients even though they are connected to 2.4GHz?
Best Regards.

As stated in the original post, why does router report clients as 5ghz WHEN THE CLIENTS HAVE NO 5GHZ.
That is as noted they have no 5ghz, not that the router is worth much anyway as the mesh system sucks and is not worth the $ spent.
Smart connect is off long ago as there was no such thing as smart about it, router drops connections at will, drops mesh nodes at will , have to constantly reboot.+
