Firmware Version:

I have a home network with 3 Win 11 PCs and 1 of the PCs has 3 USB external hard drives attached.  I would like to know the IP address of each external hard drive and then make each external hard drive to have a static IP address.

I would appreciate your assistance

  @Neil154 Why would USB attached drives have an IP?  The computer will but not the drives. They are shared through the computer.

  @DVair I am using the external hard drives for backup purposes and thought that if I could have the drives with static IP it would eliminate a path problem for the backup because my backup  program support suggested I use IP rather than names for the path.  So would you then say that I should make the PC with the external drives to have a static IP and use the drive name after that.

I did not know that the hard drives would not have their own IPs.  I do know how to set a static IP for the individual PC.

  @DVair If I plug in a USB to the router and then connect 3 external hard drives to the hub, will each of the hard drives show up on the DHCP lising on my router and each have their own IP address.  If yes, can I then make them have static IPs?

  @Neil154 No, drives don't get addresses, they get share names off of the device that they are connected to.

  @DVair

I was able to see the external drive when I connected it to the router.  Since it does not have an IP, how can I tell my backup program the path to use for backup.

  @Neil154 It would most likely use the routers IP and share name.  \\192.168.X.X\Sharename

Go through this document for more details on how to share and access a shared folder on your router connected USB drive.

  @terziyski

I have been able to "see" 1 external hard drive that is connected to my router.  I then purchased a powered USB hib and tried "seeing" my 3 external hard drives but it I could only stil see 1 external hard drive.

Any suggestions on how I can "see" all three hard drives/

Refer to this thread regarding multiple HDD connected trhough a USB hub.

Here's a video in which the user connects two HDD in RAID 1 to his TP-Link router.

If you want to maximize the HDD capacity use RAID 0, but in this case there's no data redundancy.

That means, if one HDD fails, you'll lose all data in the array.
