Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version: 1.4.6

Some time in the last week Amazon and other streaming services are not working with the deco router. It states that there is a vpn connected which i do not have connected. I have factory reset the devices and set them up from scratch and still not working we are also having intermitent connectivity with the internet restart the router then it works for a while then it acts up again. I think it might be a firmware issue its up to date i would love to be able to roll it back and see if that fixes the issue.

or any ideas would be helpful.

Hi  @Mark_Jacobson

Welcome to the community!

Which devices are primarily affected by this new behavior and where is the error message displaying? For example, is it a Fire TV Stick, a smart TV, a smartphone, etc.?

You mentioned you haven't set up the VPN feature on your Deco―what about on the device(s) you're attempting to stream on? Do you have a software-based VPN set up on any of them?

Who is your Internet provider? Have you tried contacting them to see if there were any recent changes to your service connection that might trigger these messages?

@Ryan the error messages are from amazon and disney+ each are different however mention the same issue is that your connection has vpn enabled please disable it. I removed the router out of the situation hooked up my tv to the modem directly and the message went away. So i know it is not the provider since the post i have reset the router multiple times change the name and password multiple times finally got amazon to work still disney+ still does not work the error message is error 73 which it thinks i am in Another country.

i really do not want to purchase another device but i may have no choice. I thought about subscribing to von service but not sure that will work if i tell it i am in USA getting very frustrated it is also dropping interent

By any chance, is your modem a combination modem + Wi-Fi router gateway? If so, this could introduce what is known as "Double NAT" scenario, which typically leads to network anomalies.

I've also heard of cases where DNS server settings can result in these types of errors. Thankfully, changing the DNS server settings on your Deco X55 is a quick and easy step that might help: How to change DNS server settings on my Deco | TP-Link

Please try the troubleshooting steps listed below if none of them solve the problem please get back to me and I will give you the directions on how to open up a ticket with support to see if we cant get this problem all worked out for you.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve your issue:

1. Check the Deco's LED status:
• If the main Deco shows a solid red light, there may be a problem between your ISP and the Deco. Please refer to troubleshooting steps for 'main Deco solid red'.
• If satellite units are flashing red, please refer to troubleshooting steps for 'satellite flashing red'.
• If all lights are green or white, proceed to the next steps.

2. Review access control settings:
• Open the Deco app and go to MORE > Wi-Fi Access Control or Block List. Make sure your devices are not being blocked or managed by access control.

3. Check parental control profiles:
• Go to the Parental Control page in the Deco app and ensure your devices are not included in any parental control profile that could restrict Internet access.

4. Verify DNS server settings:
• Go to MORE > DHCP Server in the Deco app and make sure the two DNS Servers (primary and secondary) are empty. Incorrect DNS settings can cause connectivity issues with streaming services.

5. Check VPN client settings:
• Go to MORE > VPN > VPN Client and confirm that your devices are not in the VPN client list, which could cause VPN-related error messages and block streaming services.

If you have already factory reset your Deco devices and the issue persists, please try the steps above. If the problem continues, please contact TP-Link Support and provide details about your troubleshooting results.

Note: If you suspect a firmware issue, currently Deco firmware cannot be rolled back manually. TP-Link Support can assist further if a firmware-related problem is identified.

Re:Deco X55 amazon vpn issue
Sunday
I do not have anything in the dns server it is blank i have never setup vpn client. Nothing in the blocked list or access control i reset the router to factory multiple times still was occurring If i connect the tv directly to my modem then it works fine. This has being an issue for months. Comes and goes. Sometimes restarting the router fixes it and sometimes not i think this is a firmware issue but i am not sure when the last firmware update was pushed can someone please tell me that?

Monday

@Mark_Jacobson Suggestion.  Go to whatsmyip or another site that gives your IP address when directly connected & then going through the Deco.  They should be the same.
