No internet after power outage

No internet after power outage

No internet after power outage
No internet after power outage
Saturday
Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.2.4

I've searched the forum for this issue and can't find a solution. Everytime I have a power outage, my connection to the internet is hindered. I believe the problem lies with the Deco access points. When power is restored, Nothing on site is able to access the internet, not even wired connections. Even devices hardwired directly to the router, not using wifi, will not connect to the internet until I disconnect the Deco access points and power cycle the router. How can the Decos interfer with the upstream ethernet connections at the router? Again the sequence of events: power is restored after outage, everything auto powers up, devices connect to Deco without internet, wired ethernet connections directly to router can't connect to internet, I disconnect JUST the Decos, power cycle the router, wired connections gain access to internet, I reconnect Decos and THEN wifi is restored. This is not correct. What could be the problem. Thanks

Thanks for reaching out! I understand that after every power outage, your Deco system seems to prevent internet access for all devices (including those wired directly to your router), and you have to disconnect the Decos and power cycle the router to restore connectivity. This is definitely frustrating, and I can help you troubleshoot this issue.

This behavior suggests there may be a startup sequence or configuration issue between your ISP modem/router and the Deco system. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve this:

1. Check the proper startup sequence:
After a power outage, try this order: First power on your ISP modem/router and wait 2-3 minutes for it to fully establish internet connection, then power on your main Deco, and finally power on any satellite Deco units.

2. Check Deco's LED status:
When the issue occurs, check if your main Deco shows a solid red light, which indicates it cannot connect to the internet.

3. Verify cables and connections:
• Try using a different Ethernet cable between your ISP modem/router and the main Deco
• Try connecting to a different Ethernet port on the main Deco
• Ensure the cable is securely connected

4. Configure DNS settings manually:
Open the Deco app, go to MORE > Internet Connection > tap 'IPv4 Connection' > DNS Address. Select 'Manual' and input '8.8.8.8' and '1.1.1.1' as the primary and secondary DNS servers. This can help with connectivity issues after power restoration.

5. Check advanced settings that may affect connectivity:
• In the Deco app, go to MORE > Advanced > IPTV/VLAN. If IPTV port is enabled, make sure you're not using that port to connect to your ISP modem
• Go to MORE > Advanced > WAN Port. If this feature is enabled, ensure you're using the correct Ethernet port on the Deco to connect to your ISP modem

6. Consider MAC Clone:
If your ISP modem/router works fine when a PC is connected directly but not with Deco, MAC cloning might help. You can configure this by referring to TP-Link's MAC Clone guide: https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/2925/

If the issue persists after trying these steps, please reply 'talk to agent' to connect with our support team for further assistance.

@HelpFixDecoApp The system is in access point mode. Should I put it back in wifi router mode? Would that make a difference? I need to access my LAN remotely with some of my devices connected via wifi so I need everthing to come back up automatically after an outage.

This has happened to other users in the past and the only way they were able to get there system back up was to go to the location and power cycle everything

With one user we suggested using smart plugs for each router. So as long as the internet comes back up you can power cycle the routers by turning each smart plug off and then on

Hi, can I have the model number of the main DHCP router?

It is recommended to disable "Smart DHCP" under Deco App>More>Advanced when Deco X20 is in AP mode.

If it didn't help, can you share a detailed topology of the network layout, for example:

ISP router---switch---main Deco X20---<WiFi Backhaul> other two satellite X20s

\------other wired devices, such as NAS/NVR, etc.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.
