Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.4 Build 20241227 Rel. 63367

I just subscribed to Advanced Parent Controls for my Deco WiFi 6 Mesh system. I am very disappointed to find that blocking the YouTube app also erroneously blocks the YouTubeTV app as well, even though both apps are listed separately. Please advise if there is a workaround or fix.

  @ArticulateZebra

Hi, apart from selecting "YouTube app" under "Blocked Apps", did you also add any "Web filters" or "Blocked Websites"?

If you add one more mobile device under the same Parental Control profile, will the "YouTubeTV app" be blocked as well?

Could you please refer to this link to help me submit the Deco App log: How Do I Submit a Deco App Log?

(Please update the support ticket ID here after submitting the App feedback.)

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

@David-TP Thank you for replying. Okay, this is strange.

I tested it again today, and now blocking the YouTube app via APC does not work at all, for either device I tested. My most recent test was with both a Hisense GoogleTV and an iPhone. YouTube was not blocked on either.

I emailed both the logs and screenshots of my Advanced Parental Control settings per your instructions. You will see that I have no other blocks configured (I did previously as a way of trying to troubleshoot / resolve the issue on my own, but have since removed those).

Thank you

Did you submit the Deco app log yet as requested by @David-TP in this post? This will allow him and the engineers who view the logs to help you troubleshoot further.

Thanks.

@HelpFixDecoApp Yes, I did over three days ago but it was not acknowledged or responded to. How long should I expect to wait?

  @ArticulateZebra

When you submitted the ticket you "should" have received a TKID number can you please provide that? As I do not work for tp-link I just volunteer my free time as I have it I am unable to provide you with any time frame on when a member of the staff will be able to get back you you.

I will message one of the staff members and see if I can get one of them to message you first thing Monday morning when they are back at work

Thanks.

Re:Blocking YouTube with APC also blocks YouTubeTV

I wanted to share an update following my correspondence with TP-Link support.

The conclusion is that Advanced Parental Controls cannot selectively block individual YouTube apps. Blocking YouTube applies at the domain level, not the device or app level. As a result, blocking YouTube will block all traffic to youtube.com, which includes all YouTube apps (YouTube, YouTube TV, YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, etc.).

I expressed my disappointment with this simplistic approach to app blocking and will cancel my ACP subscription. I hope they choose to provide true app-level blocking in the future.

@Ryan

I know you probably sick of me saying this but can you bring this up with the project mangers? You should be able to block one YouTube site and not have it block all of them plus you guys just lost a paying customer to the service which is less money for tp-link.
