Hi, I recently purchased a TP-Link Archer C5400 v2.0. It’s running Firmware version 1.0.45 Build 2010927 Rel. 53959(5553).

The device works well when “Smart Connect” is disabled. However, when I have “Smart Connect” enabled, it does not appear to do any “load balancing” as described on the website.

To test smart connect I tried finding devices on the same antenna set (2.4Ghz, 5Ghz-1, 5Ghz-2) and streamed Netflix movies to devices on the same antennas, while all other antennas did not have activity (they did generally have connected devices in “idled mode”. I used the “Statistics” section of the “Wireless” heading on the “Advanced” tab of the tplinkwifi.net software to verify that the intended devices were using a lot of bandwidth, while all other devices were not. I also tried rebooting the router several times to confirm my results.

Some of the devices I tried are:
Google Chromecasts (firmware 1.22.79313)
Android Smart Phones running (e.g. a Samsung Galaxy S6 with Android version 6.0.1)
Vizio TV with built-in cast technology (M60-D1)
Windows 10 PC (Version 1607) with an Alfa Antenna (AWUS036ACH)
Roku 2 XS (Only uses 2.4Ghz) Version 7.5 Build 4099-02

Am I misunderstanding the Smart Connect feature? Is there some reason why streaming two Netflix streams at the highest quality should not trigger the load balance? Any explanation would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Did you get a resolution for this? When on Smart Connect are all of your bands visible? The issue for me is as soon as I enable Smart Connect, the 5ghz band drops and only the 2.4 ghz is visible - which forces all my devices to connect to it (16 in total). Thus, no load balancing occurs at all.
