Model: Archer C8
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I recently moved into a new house with an existing wifi network. I have a desktop with no wifi card and would like to use my Archer C8 as a wireless adapter.

Here is the desired network topology.

Existing Xfinity Wifi Router )=)=)wifi=)=)  Archer C8 =)=) ethernet cord =)=)=) desktop

I am aware the C8 can function as an access point by using an ethernet cord between the two routers, however the distance is too large.

Is this possible, and if so, what settings do I need to select?

Best,

Ryan

Try this but may not work as your router is a V4. https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/825/ An inexpensive extender such as the RE220 would be easier to set up and maintain. In the long run it is less costly to replace the Xfinity WIFI modem/router with a new modem (see Xfinity approved modems) add an extender if needed and use the C8 as your main router.

@ArcherC8

Thanks for the recommendations. Just double checked, I'm hardware version v3 and upgraded my firmware to 1.1.2 build 20180126 and WDS briding is grayed out. Do I need to do anything to allow me to enable it?

My gui looks different than those screenshots too.

See the below for more info. Also check the NAT setting as it may be involved. https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/227/?utm_medium=select-local

@ArcherC8 What should my NAT settings be? I can't enable WDS because it is grayed out.

Flip the value and see if it allows you into the field.
