Model: AC500
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.0.14 Build 20200220 rel.33197(5553)

Note: for some reason the forum doesn't think the AC1750 exists, so I had to select an incorrect model above.

I'm using my AC1750 in WDS bridging mode to extend a wireless network from the house next door into ours. (I'm in an AirBnB; both houses have the same owner so they're sharing a single internet hookup and the root WiFi is in the other house ::sigh::). I've followed the instructions in the FAQ to set up WDS (https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1555/) and it works for the most part, but I'm having a problem with IPv6.

The ISP provides IPv6, and the clients that connect on the extended network are getting IPv6 addresses, but they can't connect to IPv6 addresses on the internet. On the root network IPv6 works fine, so my theory is that my router is dropping them on the floor. I don't especially care about v6 functionality, but the problem is (if I understand correctly) since the clients have IPv6 addresses, whenever DNS returns an IPv6 the machine assumes it'll be able to connect over IPv6, but then the packets get dropped. So whenever the machine decides to use IPv6 the connection just hangs.

I've tried various configurations of settings in the IPv6 section, but honestly I don't understand v6 very well so I'm making lots of guesses. Nothing I've done seems to change anything.

Any ideas?

@hjfreyer

The model of the router starts with the name of Archer so you probably have an Archer A7 judging by the hardware version.

Is the wireless band that was extended the 5GHz or 2.4GHz? If it was the 5GHz, switch to the 2.4GHz.

Does the ISP also provide IPV4? For example, if IPv6 was disabled would you get a IPv4 address?

Hey @hjfreyer I'm having the same issue. Is it really the case that you cannot do ipv6 passthrough when using WDS??

Hey @Tony !

Since I have exactly the same problem as the post author, I will take the opportunity to reply here.

In my case the ISP provides a dynamic IPv4 address, which is then NATted to the LAN clients (this is a usual home scenario I believe).

My router is an Archer C6 (HW v2.0). The wireless band that is extended is 2.4GHz.

Please let me know if you would need any additional details. I would really appreciate your help here.

Thanks!
