Model: Archer A7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.1.4 Build 20211022 rel.58866(5553)

Since this morning, my router would randomly lose its internet connection. First thought it was my ISP and called them but they had me plug my computer directly to the modem through ethernet and internet access worked. They suggested factory resetting the router and it seemed to fix things. Everything worked for a few hours until the router would lose internet connection again. Factory reset again and connection came back. Again, it only lasted a few hours and I have to repeat the process again every time it loses the connection. Please help!

@illu

Hello, I suggest following the troubleshooting suggestions then reporting back with the router log, the support engineers may help further.

  @illu

My A7 (also running FW 1.1.4, build 20211022 rel. 58866 (5553)) started dropping the internet this morning after many months of being stable. Strange that this started out of the blue.

Rebooting the router resolved the problem for a couple hours and then it dropped again. After the third drop, I checked and found that there was a newer FW release in March 2022:

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-a7/#Firmware  a7v5_up-ver1-2-0-P1[20211210-rel56314]

The release note doesn't describe my problem, but I updated anyway. Hopefully this will stabilize my connection.

I have a similar issue. 1.2.0 Build 20211210 rel.56314(5553) Ever since I upgraded to this issue, every few days I have to reset the router. Various symptoms. - wireless won't connect - ethernet won't connect Since those are the main issues I don't know whether it's connected to the internet or not. I guess I will try this March update even though it doesn't show up as "update available". Thanks!

Oh, well I guess this IS the latest update, referred to by the previous poster.

Maybe it's time to look for a new router.

I got onto support chat with TP-Link. Checked my DNS settings, I had them "set from ISP" and they were 75.75.75.75. I was asked to set these to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. My symptoms don't match their expected "can't connect to internet" scenario which is what the tech seemed to be trying to match. To be honest, when the problem happens I can't tell you whether the router is connected to the internet or not because I cannot even connect to the LAN. This morning at least when I checked, the internet LED was not orange. One LAN port was dark, but perhaps something was unplugged (power goes off relatively frequently and when it happens I shut the UPS supplying some other devices down).
