Hello,

I have configured recently my RE550 as acces point in an upstairs room. I have an ethernet cable connected straight from the downstairs modem to the device.

The setup worked, and I can via wifi to the repeater with several devices at high speed, but I have an issue with disconnections.

3-4 times a day connection is fully lost, and it takes around 5 minutes to recover by itself. There is no pattern on these disconnections.

While the repeater disconnects, the connection to the main network downstairs works seamlessly.

Any ideas on what could be causing this, and what could I do to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

A good rule of thumb is to always check the physical first. This means checking that the cable is connected firmly on both ends. Try a different port on the router, swap the cable out, try a shorter cable, and so on. Also, make sure the extender is firmly plugged into the wall outlet. When it drops off line check the lights on the extender and record the color status then look at the user guide to see what those colors indicate.  You can also check the router's logs to determine where the break in service is being triggered.

Thanks for your response  @Carl

I have indeed checked the physchal part, tried with a different cable, changed the router port, and the drops continue.

I have checked the lights while the drops ocur, and they remain all blue, as if it was connected, there is no change. Neither when it reconnects.

To give you context, just today I had 6 different connections drops in a span of 4 hours.

Would it help to share here my router logs?

It would.  However, if the lights status does not change it is not likely an issue between the extender and the host router/AP.  It is likely clients are not able to determine which node to connect to, the host or the RE.  This usually happens in two cases.  1.  The extender is too close to the host and 2.  the SSID was clonned and the client can't determine which node to connect to so it either hops back and forth or just fails to connect.

the solution is to change the SSID of the extender to something unique.  The password should remain the same as that is not changable, at least at this time.  Yes this will mean that devices will not automatically change.  But it should correct a concern like this.

@Carl Thanks a lot for your answer,

Definetely is not the case 1, I have a 20 metre cable distance between the host and the extender. In regards to case 2, I have manually changed the SSID of both 5.0 and 2.4 networks of the extender, so there is a significant difference between each other and with the 2.4 and 5.0 networks of the host.

Unfortunately the issue persists, but with less frequency that it used to be (once a day, sometimes twice)

Any additional action that you could recommend to improve the connectivity and avoid disconnections?

Thanks in advance,

Can you try forgetting the host router's SSID on just one of the devices and have only the AP's (RE450) SSID active for that device.  I want to make sure its not a flopping between SSIDs issue.  Also just to confrim you are running the latest FW for the RE450 correct?
