Model: Deco BE95
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.21 Build 20240726 Rel 25771

I am experiencing a very constant spikes in the latency just inside of the home network, which are very noticeable for the PlayStationg Remote gaming, or Steam Link or Geforce Now.

My setup is configured as:

1. Coax Spectrum Internet 600/35. That is the best I get in my area.

2. Synology Router RT6600ax as a router connecting to internet.

3. Deco BE95 - 3 devices around the house - with main connected to the router. Configured as Access Point. MLO is disabled, as I have found that some devices are pretty unsable right now with MLO. 2.4/5/2x6Ghz bands are enabled, and on the same network name.

4. Another Mesh Network based on 3x XE5300 and 1 X50-Outdoor for IoT devices, also configured as Access Point. They are on different network name.

Sure, it might be overkill, but I have 2.5 acres around the house, and want to listen to the music, while working in the yard.

My PlayStation has an internal IP 192.168.0.152, and I am using the following command to test the latency to it:

ping -i 0.1 -c 200 192.168.0.152

Results from hardwired Mac:

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.881/1.297/2.428/0.199 ms

iPhone 16 Pro Max (on iOS I use https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ish-shell/id1436902243 to run the same command)

round-trip min/avg/max = 3.927/15.083/94.512 ms

MacBook Air M2

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 3.323/13.940/207.429/23.282 ms

Obviously I don't expect WiFi to be close to the hardwired, but those spikes are crazy high, making it impossible to enjoy Remote Play, as you are notice those lags constantly.

The thing is, I enabled 5Ghz WiFi on Synology Router RT6600ax, called it "gaming" network,  and after I connect to it, those are the results from iPhone 16 Pro Max:

round-trip min/avg/max = 3.475/7.269/15.144 ms

And that network is actually perfect for PlayStation Remote Play, Steam Link or GeForce Now, sure once in 10 minutes I might see a slight lag/delay, but that is once in 10 minutes, but with the Deco systems, I constantly see it, like every other second, constant glitch in motion.

And just to clarify, this router is burried inside of the shelve, while Deco system is standing outside of the shelves. I am honesly surprised that BE85 cannot provide nice steady WiFi. I have tried various settings that are available, Network Optimization shows that everything is Perfect.

So, is it really an expected experience? Does the Deco team have a solution that they are working on?

Also, interesting update about Pings to the units from Mac.

From Mac (which is Ethernet connected) ping each Deco unit in the system, used the following command ping -i 0.1 -c 50 192.168.0.10

1. Hardwired BE95 - round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.466/0.636/1.040/0.094 ms

2. BE95 in Mesh - round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 2.340/3.679/12.124/1.524 ms

3. BE95 in Mesh - round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 2.984/5.466/25.845/3.245 ms

4. Outdoor unit XE50 - round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 2.581/5.660/39.090/5.608 ms - expect to have the worst, as it is outdoor and farthest away from everything.

5. Hardwired XE5300 - round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.581/0.791/1.637/0.167 ms

6. XE5300 in 2nd Mesh - round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 2.319/3.373/10.991/1.488 ms

7. XE5300 in 2nd Mesh - round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 2.549/3.636/8.490/1.096 ms

None of them have very big spikes, interesting, that XE5300 performs slighly better than BE95.

Run two more tests:

Test 1, wired to one of the satelites BE95 from my MBA: round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 3.150/4.437/13.631/1.493 ms - so this is a Satelite that is connected to main Unit via WiFi.

Test 2, disconnected both BE95 satelites (turned them off), and tried to run the ping from iPhone again, being close-ish to the Main unit. round-trip min/avg/max = 3.846/17.411/103.791 ms

So, it is clearly that Deco WiFi is not very stable for regular clients. It is stable between the units, but the WiFi itself is not the best, comparing to Synology Router WiFi.

@outcoldman looks like they have pulled the firmware your on so maybe downgrade?  I have the 1.0.21 firmware for the be85 and it's been problematic in some ways. They have also been providing some beta firmware to resolve some issues you can request in this forum.

Interesting observation, we just had a major power outage for a few days (Milton). And that are the results after we got the power (run two times from my iPhone 16 PM).

round-trip min/avg/max = 3.706/7.424/48.041 ms

round-trip min/avg/max = 4.061/6.415/18.867 ms

That is way different, avg ping is 1/2 of the previous results, and 40-50ms spike is managable, comparing to 100ms spikes.

So I guess I will schedule reboot every night, they have this option in the app, my guess for that reason.

One more find / update. Disabling UPnP significantly imrpoved latency on Deco Mesh WiFi.
