HS220 slow coming on
Is there a way to make the HS220 turn on faster when physically pressing the switch? Currently it takes about 2 seconds to start turning on, plus the fade time. I set it to instant on in my app, which doesn't seem to affect anything, as it still fades on and has the additional delay before that.
This is a safety issue, because a light switch needs to turn on instantly when pressed, period. They figured this out in, what, the late 1800s? So why is this switch so slow to turn on? This is the case with both of my dimmer HS220s. My regular non-dimming Kasa switches seem to turn on instantly.
If there is no way to fix this, I think these should be recalled because, again, it's a safety issue. If there is an emergency, nobody has time to play around with the switch to figure out how to get it on. Also, in the dark, elderly (and really anyone) are more likely to trip on things because the light didn't come on as expected.
Also, I'd like for TP-Link to provide an explaination as to why the switch was designed this way and why people's safety is less important than...wait, why doesn't it just turn on, for gods sake?

Hi, I have a few HS220 hardware v3.0. My software version is 1.0.3 Build 210202 Rel.190636.
I can't seem to upgrade to anything newer through the app. My HS200 had no trouble updating through the app.
How can I upgrade to the "Optimized on the HS220(US)V3 1.0.8 Build 220826 or later firmware" mentioned in https://community.tp-link.com/us/smart-home/forum/topic/243238?replyId=1014656 ?

I'm having the same issue, no link to the HS220 V3 firmware and my app says firmware is up to date. Can you PLEASE fix this immedietely so I don't have to uninstall 5 switches and return them to Amazon?

@Cretezy there is a v3 link in that post, it's just not very clear. The V1 firmware is also good on v3 hardware (see the actual link, ignore that the title only says v1). not at all your fault for missing it, it is super unclear.
I was able to hack that V3 firmware into the macOS installer included with the v2 firmware, but it took more than a few steps, and over ridding several OS security features, so it's not a process I would recommend.
TP-Link -- if you are reading this -- please release official firmware for hs220 through the app fixing this issue. The manual installers just don't cut it and are not secure or complete (need v3 on macOS? Toooo bad!). Plus even with the latest beta, the switch is slower than the hs200 -- there is no reason for any delay when there is no double tap action set, and there is still a delay.

@Davernow I re-read the original post 5 times but I still don't see the V3 link. Can you paste it here? I also tried using the V1 and V2 firmware on my V3 switch but it gave an error saying "Could not find a compatible device".

@DBKAsa This is the link (notice the V3 in the URL): https://static.tp-link.com/upload/beta/2022/202202/20220228/Upgrade_Instruction_HS220_V1_V3_Optimized_smart_dimmer.zip
Worked for me on V3 hardware, but wasn't easy. Had to hack V3 firmware into V2 installer.

@Solla-topee I see 1.0.8 firmware out in the app. Can you confirm if this contains the fix to this issue? I don't want to have to manually roll back 24 switches to the beta firmware if it doesn't!
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
If your HS220 has hardware version V3, you can update the firmware to the official one(1.0.8 version) to solve the issue. If you worry the new firmware may not solve your issue, update one HS220 for a try first.
Best Regards

@DBKAsa This firmware did improve the issue. It's also an improvement over the beta firmware in this thread in that they aren't slow to come on when dimmed.
However, I am seeing a "double flash" when I turn bulbs on. Not 100% but fairly often. This is new to this firmware (1.0.8)

I'd love to and have been waiting patiently for months now... But the firmware update page in the app says "The firmware of all connected devices is up to date."
My HS220 Hardware version says 3.0 and firmware 1.0.3. Is hardware version V3 different than 3.0?

In this case, you can restart the HS220 and then go to the Firmware Update (https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1256/) page on the Kasa app again. If you see the same message, pull down this page to refresh it and see if the new firmware will show up.
