This is actually for the KS230, not available in the drop-down list..

 

I configured the new KS230 switch 3 days ago and was connected to the network.  At the time I think it updated to firmware version ending .5.  All was well.   

 

I noticed today that it was no longer connected to the network.  I went tp rerun the setup but I had to be super close to the switch for my phone to find the setup SSID.  And then I had to move my router very close to it to finish configuration on my network.  

 

It looks like a new firmware version was downloaded, now ending .10.  Has this reduced the radio power?   Is that because some units were getting warm?  

 

As it is it's not powerful enough to reach my router.  Other tplink switches here have no problem connecting.

Hello @belledune 

KS230 1.1.10  firmware does not adjust the switch power.  May I know do you mean the default SSID of kasa smart is weak or the Router's signal is very weak during set up? 

  •  If router's signal shows very weak, please check the signal strength in Kasa app-> Device Settings-> tap the Wi-Fi icon to check 'dBm' value

 (-40d- 70dBm is good to average, less than -70dBm is relatively poor,  relocate smart device or router closer to each other )

  • - if smart  device default SSID Kasa_XXX is very weak, please try a factory reset  by pressing the reset button on main switch for more than 5 secs, check on different devices like phones and laptops and see if it behaves the same. 

If the concern persists, may I know the model of router, can I have a photo showing the weak signal, thank you.

@Solla-topee  the signal for the default network for the device is very weak.  My phone had to be within 1 foot to make a connection.

 

I can't get the switch back on my router network to check the signal strength in Kasa.  Sorry I don't have a way to display dBms outside of the Kasa app.  But when I look at the default TP-LINK_Smart_Dimmer network on my Samsung G10 phone, when the phone is 1m away from switch: 1 bar.  When the phone is within 10cm: 2 bars:  within 1cm:  4 bars.   I checked with a laptop as well.   When it was within 1cm the signal strength was 1 bar.

 

I have pulled the switch out of the plastic box to do this test, to make sure that the switch box is not interfering with the signal.

 

I have tried factory reset and see no difference in behavior.

 

By checking low signal strength on multiple devices when they are close to the switch I think that shows that it is not a router signal issue.
