Doorbell-Specific Features (Compatibility Varies by Model)

Smart AI Detection and Notifications

_____Built-in Motion, Person, Pet, Vehicle, and Package Detection features allow you to know exactly what is going on in your home without reviewing your footage.

Package Detection Tips

Models supporting Tapo’s AI Package Detection feature will notify you when a package has been left at your door. The feature will look to see if a visitor has left a package within the doorbell’s view. If you know that your packages are often left out of view,, consider mounting your doorbell to have a better view or using the included wedge.

Quick Responses and Two-Way Audio Communication

You can communicate directly with your visitor through the Tapo Doorbell's built-in speaker and microphone via the Tapo app. If responding in real time is inconvenient, you can choose from a list of prerecorded audio responses to play.

With Ring Call, you will receive a phone call to conveniently answer your door without opening the Tapo app. (Update Coming to iOS allowing you to select between Ring Call and Default)

Doorbell Spotlights and Night Vision

Many Tapo Doorbells include improved Night Vision capabilities, allowing clear or even full-color images to be seen with the smallest amount of light. For the D130, D210, D225, and TD25 the LED ring around the doorbell will function as the spotlight at night. Even our team was surprised at both the brightness of the light and the resulting image quality.

For the D230S1, the doorbell button is not surrounded by an LED; instead, a designated LED spotlight can be seen on the doorbell.e30fec2731ea4767bb9c0f50df09b9e6

Varied Power Options

Power Options for Tapo Doorbells come in three ‘flavors’: Hardwired Only, Battery Only, and Dual Power.

  • Battery Cameras are Not Capable of 24/7 Recording
  • Dual Power Doorbells Can Be Powered Either Way and Gain 24/7 Recording When Powered
  • Not All Battery Doorbells have a Removable Battery

Flexible Recording Options

With a 512 GB MicroSD Card Slot and Tapo Care Support, you can choose how to store your clips.

Additionally, when provided with consistent power via a hardwire connection, the D225 will allow you to choose continuous or 24/7 Recording. Battery-Powered Doorbells and Cameras using battery power will only record when motion or activity is detected by the camera’s motion sensor.

  @Riley_S Could you specify which hardwired ones work with existing/built-in chimes?

  @Riley_S I for one am excited for the battery operated door bell. I have always wanted one on my side door but there is no power. Do you know how long the battery will last, and if cold weather will affect the battery life? New England gets some cold winters.

Can you elaborate on the differences between the D25 and the D225? The price difference is very significant however they do not look that different in the descriptions I am finding. Thanks!

  @floss3591,

I have reached out to our team on the topic and will hopefully receive a formal response about the behavior that happens in the two different situations. In general, any of the wired or dual-power doorbells are able to accommodate or bypass a chime in some way.

For Wired Only Doorbells, such as the D130, the exiting chime will need to have a jumper placed on it, disabling the chime and allowing constant power.

For the TD25 and D225 Dual-Power Doorbells, it is possible to use the doorbell wiring without placing a jumper on the chime - however, this will require you to disable Always-On recording. (This is the behavior that I am seeking clarification on, as I am not positive whether the chime will ring or simply pass power) If you would like to use the Always-On recording feature, you will need to place a jumper on the chime.

Hey @AndrewC45,

I have reached out to our team for clarification, but the doorbells do have a surprisingly wide operating range, supporting temperatures all the way -20°C. This does mean that the device is safe to use in most conditions, and was designed to do so.

The battery life of the cameras is much more dependent on the detections used throughout the day, which is where the Battery Life Estimates come from. I am not sure about the potential for the Battery's lifespan to decrease with the temperature; I would expect any decreases to be relatively minimal given the operating range, but I have reached out to our team for confirmation.

I should also mention that the D210/TD25 can use an A201 Solar Panel, and the D230S1 can use the A200 Solar Panels to charge the battery of the devices each day. Depending on your case, this may be a decent option to make sure that your camera's battery is always given an opportunity to charge.

Hey @MadFoodScientis,

The two are very similar; the core difference (other than retail location) is their video quality and resolution. The TD25 offers a 5MP camera, while the D225 is only 4MP - resulting in a slightly increased image quality and resolution for the TD25.

Is there a way to have video from the doorbell save to a NAS or a drive/sd-card that is not located in the doorbell? Concerned that if the doorbell is stolen then the footage is stolen with it if stored in the internal SD card.

  @MadFoodScientis,

It would depend on the doorbell that you choose. The D230S1 will record its footage to the SD card on the hub, rather than the device. Otherwise, you would need to look at the wired doorbells that offer RTSP or ONVIF and then a compatible program on your NAS or an NVR. These features will allow your video stream to be seen across your network. The D130 has already added support for these features, with the TD25 and D225 set to receive the feature in a future firmware update. I will update this post with the information when we see the feature added.

We also offer a pretty affordable cloud storage service so that you can store clips in the cloud for 30 days in addition to your SD Card.
