Model: Kasa HS210
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Hi,

I puchased the HS210 kit with two switches. Box 1 has continuous line power in and one black and one red traveler, verified that the travelers are the same wires in Box 2. The two travelers are connected to the top of Switch 1 and the line is attached to the side, the ground and neutral wires are also connected.

In Box 2 the load (verified - they are over head lights) is connected to the side of Switch 2, the two travelers are connected to the top and the ground and neutral wires are connected.

I get the same behavior with BOTH switches. Manually pressing the switch does not switch anything. I have verified this with a voltage tester (I expect with switching, the hot traveler should go cold and the cold one, hot). Both are connected to Wifi but are not paired to one another and I get the same behavior - clicking on the power button in the app does not cause the switch to switch. I have done factory resets on both switches with no change.

Is this a bad batch and I should return them? Are there any other tricks or maneuvers to try?

Thanks for your help.

  @KenV99,

I will be honest that I have faaar more experience with Tapo's version the S515 to start.

At any point, has one of the switches completely lost power, from a combination of on/off states between the two?

As long as your wires are all connected properly, and verified to be funtioning as intended, i would look towards three things:

1 - Pair the Switches, without them being paired, its possible that one is interfering with the normal operation of the other.

2 - Your traveler wires may not go directly to the other switch and may instead have the light between the two switches.

3 - Double Check all your wires, if you have done any renovations or electrical work its very possible that a wire got repurposed. Also check that there is no power coming across your ground or neutral wires.

In case it is something with the device itself, you should consider getting in touch with our support team who are better equipped for things like that. I will say just from personal preference, take a look at the Tapo S515, even if just for future installs. It was our first venture across both brands into providing a much more streamlined installation and works in multiple setups.

  @Riley_S

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I checked all of the wiring and ended up using a multimeter to confirm things.

I ended up buying a single pole Tapo Matter dimmer and a Tapo button and just wired the other box up to make things work; I'm sending back the kit,
