Model: Archer BE6500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.6

NOTE: Model is actually Archer BE6100 but board system won't allow me to enter it in the Model field. Then it required a model be entered so closest was the 6500.

Bought router through Walmart a couple weeks ago but having issues with it dropping internet over WiFi. Note that WiFi signals are NOT dropping, in fact they stay strong. Just the internet connection becomes unavailable for a time.

I think it is an internal thing as when it happens, I am still able to connect to the router using the Tether app from my phone over cell data. So router is still connected to internet.

I've disabled SmartConnect which brought things back online at one point but it is still dropping out multiple times daily. Other in household have been advised to press the Reset button (not long pressing) and that will bring it back connected and of course cycling power to router will do the same. I've also updated firmware to latest available.

Any ideas on what might cause this? Is it worth troubleshooting or should I just take it back to Walmart and get something else?

I bought this unit along with some RE1500X extenders to create a mesh network inside an Adobe walled house where WiFi signals get eaten for lunch. Using four extender units plus locating router more central and in line with hallways created a very strong signal around the house but that doesn't do any good if the internet connection keeps breaking.

I will also add that during the process of upgrading the router and extenders, issues were discovered with the ISP service and equipment so all of that has been refreshed including new modem and new cable running down the line into the house. Service was upgraded to 500 Mbps down/20 Mbps up and new modem could actually achieve somewhere close. So ISP service is solid. And again, I can still connect to router using cell data via Tether app so router has internet.

Any help is appreciated. First TP Link product I've had this kind of issue with.

Hello @LonnyB ,

Welcome to our community.

It seems that the wireless connection is unstable on the router. Have you set the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz separately? Please test separately to confirm which WiFi band the problem occurs on.

Here are some suggestions that may help you:

1) Make sure the Router is properly placed; it should be put in an open area instead of inside a cabinet or shelf.
2) Change the wireless channel to another one. You may refer to
Changing Channel and Channel Width on a TP-Link Router (new logo).
3) Change channel width to avoid interference. For 2.4GHz wireless client devices, adjust the 2.4GHz channel width to 20MHz; for 5 GHz wireless client devices, adjust the 5GHz channel width to 80MHz or 40MHz, etc.

Best Regards.
