24/7 recording to micro SD card stops
24/7 recording to micro SD card stops
I continue to experience issues with the 24/7 recording to micro SD card functionality. The records randomly stop without any notification and if i try to access the recordings from the Kasa app, i get a message telling me to install a SD card first. I have experienced this failure on both the KC420WS and KC410S cameras. I use a variety of different size and manufacturer brand SD cards and the issue is not isolated to a card manufacturer.
I can remove the SD cards from the cameras and insert into my windows laptop and it tells me there is an error and will run "scan and repair" and then the card is usable again. All previous recorded images are also usable. Other SD cards will indicate they are "write protected" and I have to first run DISKPART to manually clear the WRITE PROTECT Attribute and then run "scan and repair" and then the SD card is usable again in the camera.
I currently have a SD card in this situation so here are the details I hope you need to help resolve this:
A check of the file system on the SD card yields

Hello @DaveGeorgi
It's good know you have tested the SD card on a computer.
Here is an instruction that helps with troubleshoot SD card problem, kindly give it a try and let us know if it works for you.
What should I do if the SD card doesn’t work properly on my camera?
Please also confirm Kasa APP and Camera firmware are both up to date.
If PC has found there is some problem with SD card or says the SD card is write protected, I suspect there might be an issue with SD cards itself.
You could test if the SD card itself is fine using H2testw software as guide here: How to Verify Fake Micro SD Cards
Note if H2testw has a warning or error, it is recommended to try a different SD card or reach the SD card manufacture for help.
To look into your case further, can you help provide some case details here
1. photo of H2testw results
2. photo of SD cards
3. photo of the error on Kasa APP
4. Mac address & SN of camera (please share via private message)
5. Kasa APP version
May I know what are the other SD cards have you used on the KC420WS / KC410S separately(please help note the brand/ capacity/ model)?
Please also share your email account and we may need to create a support email and escalate your case.

This sounds quite unusual, may I know what are the other SD cards have you used on the KC420WS / KC410S separately (please help note the brand/ capacity/ model), are some of them brand new SD card or if you purchase the SD from the official stores? Thank you very much!

I purchased 2 types of cards. 6 cards in total were all purchased new 3-4 months back. I have a hard time believing that all the micro SD cards could be failing.

@DaveGeorgi Try a smaller capacity SD card. I have found they work faster. I put 128 GB in cameras that recommend 64 gb and they take much longer to download to my computer for the same amount of pictures
Good Luck

I do believe this is related to the size of the SD card. I only experience this problem with the cameras that have 128G cards. All my other cameras have 64G or smaller cards installed. Ive not noticed a speed deviation between between the 128G and smaller cards but all my cameras are on a 1G internet circuit.
I believe this is a Kasa app formatting issue of the higher density cards but need to gather the detail to prove it to the support team. One of the failing 128G cards was formatted as FAT32 which is not valid;however, i dont know if it came that way or the Kasa app reformated the card.

Hello @DaveGeorgi
Glad to hear from you again thank you very much for providing more case details!
From the H2testw test result, the SD card capacity has a warning' Warning: Only 6030 of 120549 MByte tested.'
It seems the SD card has fake memory, or it could be something wrong on SD card itself. Plus the 'White protected' / 'Repair' requirement when insert the cards on a computer, I'd recommended reach SD manufacture for further test those SD card and check warranty for it.
If possible, make sure your SD card has passed the H2testw test first, no warning or error message, then use that SD card on the cameras.
To better assist with your case, I create a support email TKID220800432 to follow up further, please check your email inbox.

The warning message is because it only ran the test on the free space on the card. I did not format the card as I thought you may want some more specifics on the card data. I will format the card and re-run the test and re-post.
