Model: Tapo P100
Hardware Version: V20
Firmware Version: 1.25

Hello,

I own a number of Tapo sensors, cameras and plugs.
I have created the following automation:

(#1) if door or motion sensor triggered —> switch on smart plugs. It works well.

I also created automation that should limit the smart plug ON time to 5 minutes only.
(#2) If smart plug is on, delay 5 minutes, then switch the plug off.

The idea is to have smart plug to be turned on by automation #1 and then have smart plugs to be switched OFF in five minutes to limit their run time down to 5 minutes only.

I found that automation (#2) does work ONLY when plugs were turned on manually. (Button push)
But does not work if plugs were turned on by automation #1.
It seems that automation(#2) ignores plug status being  activated (turn on) as a result of another automation.

This is inconsistent. What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

I found a workaround: Instead of running Automation #2, I set auto off timer for each smart plug to 5 minutes. I confirm that if automation #1 turns the plug on, the auto off timer being initiated and turns the plug off consistently with auto off time settings.

Loop automation is not supported: device's status change made by an automation will not be considered as an automation trigger.

If you want the smart plug to turn off automatically after a set period, regardless of how it was turned on, you can simply enable its auto-off timer feature.  How to Set up Schedule, Away Mode, and Timer for Smart Plug/Bulb/Switch in Tapo App

  @Wayne-TP

Thanks. What you suggest is exactly the workaround I use for the last several days. Please see my previous post.
