Model: Tapo C100
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.10

Hi all

I recently got the Tapo C100 camera for my birthday. I was very surpised with the ease of setting it up and getting everything to work. About 6 hours later the camera disconnected from the Wi-Fi and I had to powercycle it.

Same story 6-12 hours later and it has been going on like this for the past week.

Camera is on the latest firmware available from the app.

I have tried the following:

  1. Change Wi-fi settings to use a different channel (tried 6 different channels)
  2. tried the app on my phone and tablet
  3. Changed wifi AP (from my main router to a TP-link AP)
  4. set a static ip in my router
  5. used the "automatic reboot at 3am for stability" (but it just never comes up after that)
  6. Change some quality settings on the camera
  7. Turned on/off the motion detection, notification, ... functionalities
  8. Turn on the log/trace to SD card
  9. blocked the camera from accessing the internet (only local mode)
  10. ...

I am using motioneye to check the rtsp stream - with this I get an exact "disconnect moment". There doesn't seem to be an exact duration after which it disconnects, but it is always within 24 hours. The only thing I can do is powercyle the camera.

I did find the following as the last 4 lines in the trace log on the SD card. Not sure if this is the reason or not...

1,197,19829556000,-;CPU 0 Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 11002e51, epc == 803fde58, ra == 803fde58
1,198,19829577000,-;CPU 0 Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 00000000, epc == 00000000, ra == 00000000
1,199,19829598000,-;CPU 0 Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 11002e51, epc == 803fde58, ra == 803fde58
1,200,19829621000,-;CPU 0 Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 00000000, epc == 00000000, ra == 00000000

I'm thinking of returning the camera, but for the price it has a lot of functionalities that I would like to keep... Is the camera just broken or is something wrong with the firmware/setup...

I do have another tplink camera (nc 210) running and I have no problems with that one. Stable connection 24/7. All other devices from my homelab also show no connection problems as I have them monitored 24/7

My router is the asus RT-AC68U.

I got the camera start of August for my birthday (was bought a bit before)

Thanks for checking this..

Kind regards

@Triplus

Hey! Good day.

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

For your case, I would like to follow up by email for further assistance.

At the same time, could you please help me check the following information

  1. When the camera lost the connection, what is the LED light status, red or green?
  2. May I know the model number of the TPLINK AP as well?
  3. What is the modem number of your smartphone and its operating system?

Thank you very much.

Thanks for the reply.

I had some issues replicating now - but I finally was able to. The issue only seem to happen when I have an RTSP client active.

The LED status is solid green, the IR leds are also on (even during daytime)

The TP-link ap is the wa901nd, but I am mainly using my main router (the asus one - but I did try the TP-link ap just to be sure)

My smartphone is a samsung galaxy S9 with android 10 installed. I also have my HTC nexus tablet with an older android version installed. Same result using both of the devices.

I feel the camera is unable to keep working with a 24/7 rtsp connection - I am able to have the camera on for 24h+ if I don't have an rtsp client connected...

EDIT: I am normally using motioneye, but just replicated this with vlc player using a networkstream. The camera disconnected after ~4hours and the only thing I can do is powercycle.

@F-l-u-b-b-e-r Hey - I send my camera back to where I got it from. They sent me a new one which had (for whatever reason) a higher firmware version. Since then all has been well for me!

So make sure you have the latest firmware :)

I also got this problem too on the latest firmware. I'm an IT guy and tried to do/change everything but can't make the camera works.

@Triplus

Well, other comments seem the same as those of my experience! Disappointing piece of rubbish! I previously purchased a similar Guardzilla camera product. They went bust and did not tell anybody. Has this lot gone bust too? No answers from the customer service line! I have tried numerous ways to get this Tapo C-100 camera to work nothing! It worked once haphazardly when setting it up. Nothing since. Frustrating and useless! Everything says it is connecting and doesn't!

@chris3991 Hello,

 Sorry for the late reply.  Do you mean there is some unstable issue on your camera and Led is Flashing Green, you could try some suggestion here:

Turn off the firewall on router/ modem if there is any

Change router 's DNS to 8.8.8.8

Double check the Advanced settings on router like Access control / parental control / MAC filtering , and make sure that do not affect your camera

Please update Tapo APP to the latest, and update firmware to the latest version

If still the same problem, may I know the model of your router and network topology? Is there any Error message when camera led flashing green when your phone is connected to local wifi?
