Accepted [Wi-Fi Routers] AP Mode supports Onemesh

Updated on Sep 2, 2024:
We're thrilled to announce the rollout of new official firmware rolling out for multiple routers, including the BE, AX, and AC series, which introduces EasyMesh in AP Mode as a Controller. Check the following thread for a list of the models that support this feature:
EasyMesh Is Available When Wi-Fi Routers Work in AP Mode as A Controller

There are some cases that customers have their main modem router acting as the gateway and DHCP server in the network, and thus they need to change the TP-Link router to work as an Access Point to avoid the double-NAT issue. However, some of them still request the Onemesh routers (TP-Link OneMesh Devices) to support building up an Onemesh system with the Onemesh extenders when working in Access Point mode.
Before requesting that, we hope you could have a brief understanding about the difference between Router mode and Access Mode by referring to the article below, some advanced features would not be supported in Access Point mode, which is also the case for Onemesh:
If you do purchase an Onemesh router and extender already, you will need to configure it in Router mode to build up the Onemesh system. For better performance, it is suggested to check with your modem router support that if you can turn it into bridge mode or pure modem, then configure the TP-Link router as the main router.
However, we still open our ears for the market and customers here that how many of you request the Onemesh router supporting Onemesh in AP mode, and all of your opinions will be passed to the relevant team to be considered.
Press the like button and/or leave your comments and opinions if you also request the same. You can also exchange or share your opinions on this feature here. Thanks!

I have an Archer BE900 and RE653BE that I want to run as:
Router <-- 10g --> BE900 (AP Mode) <-- WIFI --> RE653BE
Any idea when this will be a thing?
Thanks,
-Allen

I have a question with regard to the software updates relating to mesh in AP mode. I have a none mesh ISP router. I have an easymesh router archer AX53 and extender tplink 705x. If I use the ax53 as a wifi AP connected to my isp router via ethernet cable can I link the 705x extender in an easymesh connection to the ax53 wirelessly?
What do I need to make ax53 capable as AP mesh controller in this scenario safely?

@smiley2025 Yes. You should be in Topo 1 as described in the following thread:

There could be no other requirements.

I'm having no luck updating the firmware of AX53 v1 router from version 1.2 to the latest 1.4. From the firmware update site it goes through the process but keeps failing at the final stage. Connected to isp router Lan to ax53 router Wan in AP mode via mobile WiFi. From downloading the firmware I can't upload from the pc to the router. Can someone tell me how to do this. At this moment I don't have a clue.
If you cannot upgrade the firmware successfully when it's working in AP Mode, please try resetting it to factory defaults and configuring it in Router mode, then check for the updates again.
If it still fails, please try upgrading the firmware manually as per Method 2: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2796/. You need to download the latest 1.4.3 version from the official website first:

Hi thanks. I gave it another try early morning from the tether app and it applied the firmware in AP mode.
Still don't know why it didn't work earlier.
Anyway now to link the RE705X in mesh mode. Hopefully.
