TP LInk Deco 9 does not block YouTube
Hello:
Deco M9 plus parental control does not block YouTube. I have the up-to-date firmware installed.
Chatted with the rep who suggested the following
-Delete the current profile
-Add www.youtube.com as per one of the faqs of tp-link
Nothing really worked. My kid is not changing the mack address, but he can watch youtube from his school computer without any problem.
It's a deal-breaker for me. I am not against watching youtube but did not want him during any online classes. Please help

[Solution] Parental control does not block YouTube
We used to have some feedback that parental control on Deco does not block YouTube, after troubleshooting with some users, we have confirmed YouTube could be blocked by Deco.
Firstly, Here are the recommended steps on the Deco APP for how to block YouTube:
1. Please add youtube/youtube.com/www.youtube.com separately under>Blocked content>Websites.
2. please go to profiles>insights>history and check whether it recorded any relevant YouTube accessing history, such as some sub-domains of YouTube; if yes, please also block it here.
Then we have finished the basic configuration.
Further more, we do find some other settings that might cause failure of YouTube blocking:
1. Private address has been enabled on the device.---It is said when private address is enabled on the device, it will use ramdom MAC address when connecting to a network. And the parental control profile on Deco is based on the client MAC address. So once the MAC has changed, the previous profile would be invalid.
2. Internet browsers use the information in the caches directly rather than send a request to the YouTube URL.
3. Firewall/Antivirus programs, like Circle take over the DNS requests from clients.
So here is what can you do to avoid the above influence:
1. remove the third-party Antivirus programs if any.
2. turn off the private address/random address on the device.
3. clear all the DNS caches on the browser and switch the browser to incognito mode and test YouTube again.
Unfortunately, if you still have an issue with YouTube, please send an email to support.forum@tp-link.com with the following information:
1. On which device you could not clock YouTube?
2. Which browsers did you use for the test and the version of the browser?

So if you find YouTube could not be blocked on your devices, please refer to the following suggestions:
Please confirm the basic configurations have been finished:
1. YouTube has been classified into Streaming Media/Cloud Applications by Trend Micro, please make sure these two categories have been chosen under the profile
2. Please add youtube/youtube.com/www.youtube.com under>Blocked content>Websites.
3. please go to profiles>insights>history and click this website and block it for your device.
If YouTube is tested unblocked, please refer to the following steps:
1. remove the third-party Antivirus programs.
1. turn off the private address/random address on the device.

Hello @TP-Link
I've been experiencing this exact problem for a long time. The above isn't clear to me.
What do you mean exactly by "1. Private address has been enabled on the device."
What do you mean exactly by "1. YouTube has been classified into Streaming Media/Cloud Applications by Trend Micro"? Where should I check or edit this?
And then you write "please make sure these two categories have been chosen under the profile". Doesn't that block ALL cloud services and not just YouTube?
Where you write to add "youtube/youtube.com/www.youtube.com" to the block list, do you mean this exact string including the slashes, or do you mean I should choose between youtube or youtube.com or www.youtube.com?
And then you write the next step "3. please go to profiles>insights>history and click this website and block it for your device." What should this be, if we already added YouTube to the block list in the previous step?

@deechte Hi, Thank you for your feedback and I will edit the solution later.
You can add 3 times, first Youtube, then youtube.com and www.youtube.com.
Adding Streaming Media/Cloud Applications category could help us confirm Youtube has been added into the Trend Micro database and since you only wish to block youtube, we could leave this category unselected and only manually add the keywords.
some websites and apps have multiple domain names/sub-domain names, which will be recorded by insight and we could try to block these sub-domain names here.

Do you also need to block the synonym "youtu.be" domain? Many links use that.
