VPNs have grown a great deal over the past few years, and as a result, we have seen an increase in demand for alternative VPN options on TP-Link routers. WireGuard VPN could be one of the most popular VPNs that we are seeing in the public community and forums. We are excited to announce here that we do have some router models that support or plan to support WireGuard VPN feature, and there will be more in the near future.

Kind Note:
This post will be actively updated to notify the new models that add the support for WireGuard VPN feature, welcome to subscribe!

Note :
1. You will need to perform a firmware upgrade on your router when the official firmware is released.
2. Be sure you have read the Terms and Conditions for TP-Link Beta Firmware before proceeding!
3. Planned***: Kindly note that Planned is NOT a guarantee, as the plan can be adjusted or changed. Planned is also not recommended for your purchase reference if the requested feature is the main consideration. It's suggested to choose one that already supports the features you require when purchasing. The list above is subject to change and might not include all models and hardware versions. We will update it once there are new models or hardware available.
For other models that are not listed above, there is currently no definitive information if WireGuard VPN would be possible or be available in the future, and we don't have any specific details that I can share around. It's suggested to keep an eye on the official website or on the router web GUI/Tether app for any new updates.
Welcome to leave your comment below if you want to see your router to be added to the supported list. Be sure to include the specific model number and hardware version when requesting. Thank you very much.

@eitavera I don't think that will ever be the case for the time being.

@Kevin_Z Thanks, I think the confusing thing here is that my router is apparently an AX72 Pro. Which is also marketed by tp-link as an AX5400. The Amazon description starts with "TP-Link AX5400 WiFi 6 Router". So when I checked this list of support, it seemed like this would be supported - because this page suggests that AX5400 is supported.
Beyond that, it appears in the menu as an option, I can enable the feature, and configure it. When I first set up the router I was able to use Wireguard briefly. Now it doesn't work.

@robrage As per the release notes of the latest official firmware, AX72 Pro should also add support for WireGuard VPN now. Please check:

If it works before but stops working, please describe the issue with more details and we may try to check what's wrong with the settings or configuration.

It would be awesome if you add support for WireGuard on Archer AX53_V1.
I am currently using OpenVPN on this router, but it is (expectedly) a bit slow.
WireGuard would be a huge improvement for my use case, as it is way faster on the same hardware.
I can beta-test the firmware if it eventually becomes available.

Hello,
When exactly do you plan to provide WireGuard support for AX73 (V2) ?
I just bought an AX73 , thinking it was better than the AX55 and it was 2 times more expensive.
However, I learned that it has support but Ax73 does not.
Should I return it?

Hi,
You can download a beta test firmware with WireGuard from here https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/593722 .
As you say, WireGuard is way faster. With OpenVPN the AX53 V1 reaches only about 17 Mbps, while with WireGuard the speed goes above 100 Mbps. (both times measured when the AX53 V1 was acting as server)

Hello, as you can see, the original post of this thread did not list the Archer AX95 as planned. We community don't have related information regarding the support of WireGuard VPN and DoH for the AX95.
