Hi @davidperrin1, I have experience only with Archer C6, not with Archer AX55, but suppose there should be similar development policy for both. To set up Ethernet Backhaul functionality I had to upgrade my Archer C6 2.0 routers to Archer C6 4.0 first. The earlier versions supported only OneMesh functionality, i.e. without Ethernet Backhaul. I recommend you to search Archer AX55 versioning and related functionalities on TP-Link pages.

Hi, thank you for clearing up my doubts. Do all hardware versions (v1, v2, v4) of the Archer AX55 support EasyMesh functionality in AP mode with Ethernet backhaul? Thank you for your feedback.

I did similar experience with EasyMesh Ethernet Backhaul. When using a direct Ethernet cable for testing, the connection was OK. After switching to the "real" Ethernet cable, the connection collapsed to the wireless one. I came to know the reason was the switch between the Main and Satellite router. After replacing this switch (D-Link?) by the another one (TP-Link) the Ethernet Backhaul works fine.

Hello, I have two routers, an AX10 and an AX55. Without using any cable between them and by placing both routers close together, I managed to get the AX55 to recognize the AX10 as a satellite in EasyMesh.

The problem arises when I move the AX10 to another room, where there is an Ethernet cable connected to the AX55, and I plug it into one of the AX10’s ports. As soon as I connect the Ethernet cable, the AX10 goes offline in the EasyMesh configuration.

When I disconnect the Ethernet cable, the AX10 reconnects and the Wi-Fi mesh starts working again.

What I need is to have both functionalities: to connect the AX10 via Ethernet and still maintain the Wi-Fi mesh functionality.

How can I achieve this?

@JoZu What is the hardware and firmware version of the AX55 and AX10? Please ensure they are up-to-date.

Please provide a detailed network layout. To test if the EasyMesh Ethernet Backhaul functions correctly, connect the AX10 to the AX55 directly using an Ethernet cable, rather than using the cable from the wall in another room. This will help verify the operation of the EasyMesh Ethernet Backhaul.

Meanwhile, please follow the instructions in the original post:

Can I ethernet backhaul through a LAN switch?

Here is my situation.

1. I have 2 ISPs , which I am aggregating into a single link using TP-Link ER605 Omada VPN router.

2. I have an Archer BE550 router and I am planning to buy a AX55 or BE230 to setup an easymesh.

3. I intend to connect both these routers to the LAN ports on ER605.

I dont want to use Wireless backhaul as I will have 4K video devices connected to each of the router. Plus I have a media server, so I want the files to be played over the wired network.

Will this work?

@BlaringPixels

That should work.

According to your description, I believe your network would be like the following:

I explained how EasyMesh functions when the EasyMesh router operates in AP Mode here below:

EasyMesh Is Available When Wi-Fi Routers Work in AP Mode as A Controller

The Archer BE550 supports EasyMesh in AP Mode. To set this up, configure the BE550 in AP Mode, add the BE230/AX55 to the EasyMesh network, and connect both to the ER605 gateway.

Why should the ER605 be easymesh compatible? it's not even a wifi router. If one easymesh device sees the other via the same wired network and these devices are connected on the correct ports on each, that must work. In ER605 you can configure multiple VLANs through the LAN ports, so even if there were other devices connected, other than those two easymesh routers, if they are separated from others with VLAN, it must be fine.

Hi @BlaringPixels

I am not sure if this will work.

I have no experience with TP-Link ER605 Omada VPN router, however it is not listed as EasyMesh compatible. If it is not EasyMesh compatible, you cannot sit it as the Main router. The mentioned Satellite routers are OK.

Maybe it should be useful following discussion https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/676034 for you.

Hi @PateickM67,

to set up connection I recommend for the first time to plug free Ethernet cable directly in LAN ports of the Main router and the Satellite router. After the connection is been established, do reconnect the Satellite router through your Ethernet network as you need. If the connection keeps work fine (the right ethernet icon in the Tether app), your switch is OK. If the icon looks as the "WiFi" icon, the connection has been automatically changed to wireless due the incompatible switch and you must replace it.

I did this experience, as you can see in my post above. Unfortunatelly, there is no list of compatible switches available.
