Hi,

I would like to increase internet availability by having 4G/5G backup line when main internet goes down. From reading multiple post it seems that TP-Link recommend single line configuration as below.

Internet Router <--> X50-5G <--> BE85s

Question:

1. Will all features and setting options (6G, IoT network, connection preference, etc.) available in BE85 still available/working if I set X50-5G as a main Deco?

2. What are disadvantages and limitations if switching to use X50-5G as a main Deco instead of BE85?

My current setup is the following:

Internet Router <--> ER7206 WAN 1 |<--> BE85

X50-5G.            <--> ER7206 WAN 2 |

Would you recommend this setup over the single line solution? Pros/Cons of both solutions?

  @9ux

Hi, Have you purchased Deco BE85 and Deco X50-5G already?

For the plan A: Internet router---Deco X50-5G(Wireless router mode with 4G/ 5G Backup)---Deco BE85

You will still have 6GHz, be able to customize the signal source for satellite Deco BE85. But other features, like VPN and IOT network entrances, connection preference for mobile clients would no longer be here since the firmware of Deco X50-5G doesn't support these features yet.

For the plan B,

Internet Router <--> ER7206 WAN 1 |<--> BE85

X50-5G.            <--> ER7206 WAN 2 |

It would be a good plan, such as How to use Deco with two ISPs?. Deco X50-5G will be on the different Mesh network from BE85. In this way, if you haven't purchased Deco X50-5G, maybe we don't need it and a normal 4G/5G modem would be a enough.

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP

Hi, many thanks for the insights. I'll go for the plan B since I already have all the units (ER7206, X50-5G, BE85). I'll still continue using TP-Link 4G/5G router especially because of the SMS feature (view SMS remotely).
