From this thread I understand that Tapo App settings are linked to the user ID. Does it mean that they are stored on a TP-Link server?

If they are kept on the user smartphone or tablet (and they are all gathered in a single file), would it be possible to make this file readily available in order to immediately recall it should something go wrong while trying new settings, or to back it up on an external device?

Hi,
It's unable to back up the Tapo device settings now. The device settings usually are saved on the Tapo device itself. If the device is online, you can sync the device settings on the Tapo app. If the device is offline, it's unable to sync the device settings and control the device via the Tapo app.
Best Regards

I understand that it's not currently possible.

I see two possible needs: one is that when after many attempts one finally manages to optimize the settings of perhaps many devices, including Automations, the possibility to restore the old ones to the device would help in the event of problems caused by later settings.

The other is that, for whatever reason, it may not be possible to transfer settings from one smartphone to another in case of device replacement. The addition to the TAPO app of the possibility to save them, for instance, to the cloud (for those who have subscribed to a cloud plan) would help too.
