Q&A
Q: Can I still use HomeCare Features if I didn't update the firmware?
A: If you stay in the original version, previous features will still be accessible through the Deco app. However, these features might no longer receive essential security updates. Therefore, we recommend keeping your firmware up to date to ensure optimal security and performance.
Q: Will previously free-offered features require a subscription after the firmware upgrade?
A: No. After the firmware upgrade, the Basic Parental Control service kit will not only retain the original capabilities of HomeCare Protection but also offer various enhancements in functional interaction, app block, and the richness of statistical data. Users can still enjoy an excellent experience without a subscription.
Q: If I already have an active Advanced Parental Control subscription, Can I use it on Deco M5 instead?
A: Yes. However, there is an exception: if the TP-Link ID also subscribed to Security+ at the same time, then the previous subscriptions can't used on the Deco M5 since its Network Security features are already free.
Q: Will I lose parental control configurations and history records?
A: We will make every effort to retain and migrate user usage records and configurations to the fullest extent possible. However, due to potential discrepancies with the old HomeCare database, some settings might need to be reconfigured. Additionally, since the original firmware utilized less usage data for parental control statistics, the insight history and traffic hours may take some time to accumulate sufficient data before they can be displayed accurately after the firmware upgrade.

@David-TP Thanks for your fast reply.
I hop there will be less false positive in the stable version.
Nice fact, I have an entry in the security alerts which specifies one of my Nest speaker had been protected after trying to access a malware website and the address was clients4.google.com. Not sure about this alert! It looks it has been updated to remove this subdomain from blacklist because I am not able to replicate the issue myself.
I also had the update for accessibility, nice! Information are easyer to read now for sure. It looks the %Deco app fails to refresh network when starting the app but it works for the second atempt.
But unfortunately, it is still not accessible to send system logs to support. The checkbox state is not pronounced by TalkBack on Android!
Will there be an audit for support form? Because the problem is not from the app itself in this case, which make difficult if not simply impossible to send logs for screen reader users.
And it looks there are performence issues when this firmware runs for some weeks E.G. when launching network optimisation. I feel automatic backup make things even worse but not sure. I hop it won't be a firmware to make m5 less usable to have to buy more recent models.

This is also what I'm looking for.
Glad to know that you are using the Android OS, and maybe you can test the newly updated version here to see whether it helps to submit the App feedback:

I'll also keep you updated if there is any clear news about the official version of Deco M5.
Thank you very much and best regards.

@David-TP After clients3.google.com, now time.google.com is considered as malicious website (malware)!
Is the list used for Deco really reliable?
No alert at all until now but since last monday, only false positive from Nest speakers!
I hop trendmicro is not used anymore as it is one of the worst list but I feel it is still the case unfortunately and this is a disaster for Google products.

Hi, nice to see you again. Thanks a lot for your time and patience.
I just uploaded a new version for Deco M5, which enhanced the overall network stability and made some small adjustments to the Network Security section.
You can test whether it improves the false alarm for Google Products:

Thank you very much.

@David-TP I updated to this new firmware and still have the false positive alert in security when using my network scanner.
Moreover, I have tried to send log again and no ticket has been sent even if I had the message indicating success!
I don't know what I do wrong but if I cannot send any system log I think I will never try any beta firmware again. Sure it won't change anything to TP-Link, I don't feel more importent than I am really but this is realy problemathic even in case of a stable firmware bug!

Can't reverted to 1.7.8
Last one day using my experience it's better than previous 1.8.5. I need to revert back to 1.7.8 because I created a family profile but after update I can't find profile & can't working filtered at those devices. Others family devices filter working . So I need to back previous version to delete that profile & then update latest version to using family profile. 1bug maybe I noticed when I reboot M5 from web not app it's take much times to reboot start & completing. It's also exist last 1.8.5. but when I using 1.7.8 it's reboot actions smooth. Maybe only I'm facing this problem.
By the way thanks for provide updates Deco M5.

Still false positive for content filtering, still Google!
home-devices googleapis com was tagged as malware website. This list is bad. I really think I will simply disable all protections from the Deco app.

Hi, nice to see you again.
We hope to minimize the impact of upgrading the beta firmware and encourage more users to test this version, so the first beta version/1.8.5_0124 could revert to the official 1.7.8 via web UI directly. But now the new version 0612 is going to be the officially released so it can't be downgraded back to 1.7.8 via the web UI(A firmware recovery would be needed).
Could you please refer to this link to help me submit the Deco App log so that the engineer can help us run further tests about the parental control issues to see if there is any other workaround:
Thank you very much.

Hi, thank you very much for your time and patience.
The engineers help us check the related Google domains in the database, and none of them are classified as malware websites.
Would there be any chance that you could share some screenshots that home-devices.googleapis.com, as well as clients4.google.com/clients3.google.com/time.google.com were ever tagged as malware websites?
As for the network scanner, the engineers think SANE service is not a regular way for network scanning. SANE allows for network-based scanning, meaning devices on a network can access and control scanners remotely. This exposes potential vulnerabilities, especially if the SANE service is not properly configured and monitored. After Deco M5 updated its network security service, the new database spotted this potential risk and sent notifications when using the network scanner.
Thanks a lot.
Best regards.
