really????
this way is basically useless!!!
ANY router that supports DoT/DoH should allow custom DNS providers, not "fixed"!
this is insane!!!

See the pictures i have linked to my post. its not entirely useless ... clouflare is okeyish , quad9 also okeyish but still compared to liberty of choice for DoH/Dot offered by Asus for example ...this is really very very important ... at least for me is an important must have feature.
and it is easy to implement and achieve... TP-link firmware engineers just need to tinker access from webui to /etc/systemd/resolved.conf with write rights.

Yeah, I've exaggerated!
I've also had an Asus router before the GE800 and used DoH with "Control D" as my DNS provider.
It worked like a charm and I deeply want it for my GE800.
Now I am forced to use the "legacy mode" that is less effective. I hoped that the DoH/DoT support was "full"!
This is NOT enough for ANY router, not only for expensive ones!

KevinZ and tp-link team seems to be very responsive to the community demands.
Let's just hope he seeing these messages and taking it to the firmware dev team.

Kevin there is one unsolved problem regarding DoT/DoH on all BE8XX BE5XX and also on GE series.
The Limitation on service choices to Predefined list of DoH .
This is very frustrating , i dont want to use adguard dns , nor cloudflare dns , nor quad9 nor openDNS.
I want to use my own DoH service but sadly it is not detected nor accepted as you can see in below picture:
@Ovidiuss Thank you very much for your valuable feedback once again.
I remember you reported this concern during the pre-release of Archer BE800 V1, and I apologize for not getting a response from the development team.
I will check with the dev team once again and let you know whether this can be optimized in the future.
BTW, what is the exact model of the router that you took the screenshot from? Is it GE800 or GE550?

I installed the pre release firmware and started having issues about 12 hours in. The router drops internet connection and when logging into the router, the connection drops every couple of seconds. I tested both wifi & Ethernet devices and they show connected to the router but no internet connection. I had to power cycle the router which temporarily fixes the issue. It comes back after a few hours or so. I rolled back my firmware to the previous version and the issue goes away.

Hi there,
Thanks for sharing your experience with the pre-release firmware.
I wanted to ask — in your case, did all of your devices lose internet connection, or was it only some of them?
In my case (also using the BE800 router), only certain devices seem to suffer — they stay connected to Wi-Fi but lose almost all packets (90%+ packet loss), while others continue working fine. A reboot fixes it temporarily, just like you described.
Would be helpful to compare cases. Thanks!

Thank you for reading and considering
The screenshots are from BE800 1.2.3 Build 20250314 rel.45415(4555) v1.
It is very annoying to be impossible to have freedom of choosing whatever service want for DoH/ Dot.

I have a GE800 with 2x BE550s in easy mesh with ethernet backhaul. I experienced this issue when connected to any of the 3 routers and across multiple devices.

@JC222 Thank you very much for reporting this phenomenon you experienced on your GE800 with the pre-release firmware.
I just want to confirm that you have ever tested removing the 2xBE550s from the network to observe if the GE800 itself is connected to the internet properly.
Do you still remember the LED status on the GE800 when the internet was dropping?
Are both BE550s connected to the GE800 directly?
