Model: Archer MR500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Build 241219 Rel.42593n

Hello,

I’m experiencing a recurring and highly disruptive issue with the TP-Link Archer MR500 router when using a Digi.Mobil Portugal (Digi PT) 4G SIM.

The internet connection is intermittently functional — sometimes it works for 1 day, then it stops working for 3–4 days in a row. During those times, the LTE appears connected, browsing and messaging works good, but **Netflix, HBO Max (on SAMSUNG TV) and iRobot fail**. They report connection issues or reject the connection with an **IMEI-related error**. Youtube works fine!

Here are some key points:

- The **same SIM card works perfectly** in another smaller TP-Link router (model TP-Link M7350), without any issue. It detects Digi PT profile from the start without any settings!
- The MR500 produces persistent log errors:
  - “**Unsupport PLMN, cannot find the section**”
  - “**Do not find the mcc mnc for the imsi 268020000324178**”
  - “**Profile load operation failed**”
- The IMSI used corresponds to **MCC 268 / MNC 02**, which is **Digi.Mobil Portugal**.
- The APN is set correctly to `internet`, with no username/password.
- DNS resolution (8.8.8.8) sometimes fails with `resolve timeout`, even when LTE status shows "connected".
- Netflix, Max, and iRobot all return errors like "cannot connect", or indicate the **IMEI is not valid for streaming access** – suggesting the backend services reject this type of network configuration.

It is clear that the current firmware on the MR500 does **not include a valid ISP profile for Digi PT**, and this causes network identity rejection or misrouting. Or there is a problem with MTU value, but looks like i can't change it from web interface!

Can TP-Link please:
1. Confirm if MCC 268 / MNC 02 is supported in the latest MR500 firmware?
2. Provide an ISP upgrade file or manual method to add this PLMN profile?
3. Any beta firmware ?

Router details:
- **Model**: TP-Link Archer MR500
- **Hardware version**: V1
- **Firmware version**: Build 241219 Rel.42593n
- **SIM**: Digi.Mobil PT (MCC 268 / MNC 02)

This issue is extremely frustrating, especially as the same SIM works on other TP-Link routers.

Thanks in advance for your support!

  @Io9

Hi,

Thank you very much for your quick response and for providing the beta firmware — it was extremely helpful and allowed me to resolve the issue.

After running several tests with the beta firmware  I was able to identify the root cause:

Digi.Mobil Portugal’s LTE network randomly assigns either (almost every day a different one)
- A public IP address, or
- An address behind a Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT).

This dynamic assignment affects the MTU of the LTE interface:
- When a public IP is assigned, the connection works flawlessly with MTU 1500.
- When the device is behind CGNAT, the effective MTU drops to around 1464, and certain services such as Netflix, HBO Max, and iRobot Cloud fail due to path MTU discovery or TLS handshake fragmentation.

Thanks to the beta firmware, I was able to dynamically test MTU values and confirm the issue. Now I know exactly when and why the connection fails, and how to adjust the MTU to router accordingly.

---

As for your questions:

- The issue appeared unpredictably — sometimes the connection worked fine for 1 day, and then failed for 3–4 days, depending on the type of IP assigned by Digi.
- Yes, I still have the TP-Link M7350, and I want to say that even after 7 years of sporadic use, it still works very well including the original battery.

Again, thank you for your excellent support and for providing the beta firmware — it made a real difference!

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback。

Archer MR500 supports MCC 268 / MNC 02(Digi.Mobil Portugal).

There is a beta firmware for MR500, but I'm not sure whether it helps with the current issue.

I'll share it via email. Please check whether you can receive my email.

If possible, I hope you can also reply to the email with a copy of the whole system log.

"The internet connection is intermittently functional — sometimes it works for 1 day, then it stops working for 3–4 days in a row. "

-How often did you usually run into this issue?

If it can't be reproduced consistently, it might be hard to locate the root cause in a short time.

-By the way, do you still have M7350?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Hi I have exactly the same conditions. Can you share the beta firmware, so I can set the MTU?

Best Regards

Hi, thanks for the message.

Is your SIM carrier also Digi.Mobil PT?

It is suggested to test the beta firmware here to see whether it helps:

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Hi that's right, it's DIGI as well.

I still don't see an MTU field in the firmware.

  @jrk94

Hi, thanks for the update.

The beta version never allows customizing the MTU size under 4G router mode. It introduced 464XLAT as some mobile providers might only provide IPV6 connection, and certain network programs/sites can't work properly with the pure IPv6 network structure.

Did the current issue get any better with the beta version?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

@David-TP Ibought this router today and Will use the Digi 4G network I know that for this network the MTU needs to BE bellow 1400 and did not find a way to configure this MTU for 4G.

If the router automatically negociate this I think that the network os not answering well and the router didnt find the correct MTU.

Is it possoble to out this parameter there?

Im considering refurn my router because of this issue.

  @gmartins

Hi, is the current firmware version of Archer MR500 1.10.0 0.9.1 v0001.0 Build 241219 Rel.42593n?

The latest firmware doesn't allow MTU customization.

Do you save any online links that Digi 4G mobile network needs to be below 1400?

Have you experienced any network issues with Archer MR500 now?

If we can find enough details to prove that the MTU is related to the current issue, the engineer might help us request a new beta firmware to properly sync the MTU from the SIM ISP.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

@David-TP I dont have any oficial link, justo people on fóruns telling that and I already test it with and old router that was having issues with some apps and after investigation I set the MTU to 1364 and fixed all the problems.

I can show a print screen of a ping with lenght greater than 1400 with no reply and One bellow replying.

ping 8.8.8.8 -f -l 1372

If I do that comand with a value greater than 1400 it Will fail.

Best regards,

Gonçalo

Hi, thank you very much.

It would be highly appreciated if you could share the pictures of the ping test.

By the way, can I also have the firmware version of the Archer MR500?

I'd like to follow up on your case via email. Please check whether you can receive my email.

Thanks again.

Best regards.
