Hi all,

I’ve emailed TP-Link support, but I’m stuck and hoping someone here might have an answer. I’m running:

⚙️ Current Setup:

  • Sky FTTP 900 Mbps
  • Sky Max Hub (SR213)
  • Deco XE75 (3-pack) handling all Wi-Fi (Sky Hub’s Wi-Fi disabled)

✅ What’s Working:

  • When the Sky Hub handles routing, and the Deco is in AP mode, I’m getting 770–802 Mbps down, 97–99 Mbps up — see the attached screenshot for proof.

❌ What’s Not Working:

I need DHCP reservations for key devices (Mac Mini, Raspberry Pis, etc.). But the Sky Hub’s DHCP settings are completely locked down — you can’t edit or delete reserved IPs. So I tried using a third-party router:

  • Bought an ASUS RT-AXE7800 (supports Option 61) and connected it to the ONT.
  • Set Deco XE75 to AP mode behind it.
  • Result: Speed dropped to 465 Mbps down (via Deco Wi-Fi), which is just not acceptable.

🧠 Where I’m Stuck:

I genuinely don’t know what the problem is:

  • Was the ASUS router just trash?
  • Is Sky throttling non-Sky routers somehow?
  • Does the Deco just not work properly behind ASUS?
  • Is Option 61 not actually authenticating properly, even though it showed as connected?

I feel like I’m stabbing in the dark. I don’t want to throw money at another router just to find out I’ve got the same speed issues again.

🎯 What I Actually Need:

All I want is:

  • Full Gigabit speeds like I’m getting now
  • Proper DHCP control (reserved IPs)
  • To keep using my Deco XE75 as the main Wi-Fi

❓So my question is:

  • Is there a TP-Link router that supports Option 61 for Sky FTTP?
  • One that plays nicely with Deco and doesn’t tank the speed?
  • Or is the only option to keep the Sky Hub and somehow force it to work with Deco in Router Mode (via DMZ)?

I’m really stuck. Any suggestions would be massively appreciated. Just need something that works — no speed loss, no double NAT headaches, and proper DHCP/IP control.

Thanks,

Dunc

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

As far as I know, our routers only have DHCP option 61 under the DSL router mode. Deco XE75 still doesn't support DHCP option 61 in the default wireless router mode.

"Or is the only option to keep the Sky Hub and somehow force it to work with Deco in Router Mode (via DMZ)?"

Yes, I think it would be best to keep the Sky hub and enable DMZ for Deco.

For ASUS RT-AXE7800, I think Deco XE75 should work well when connected via an Ethernet cable and set into AP mode.

Did you also disable the WiFi feature on the ASUS RT-AXE7800?

Have you tested the Ethernet connection speed directly from Asus?

Thanks a lot and best regards.
