Hi,

So I got this router yesterday to replace my Asus ROG GT-AX6000. I was hesitating between this one and the really new ASUS ROG Strix GS-BE18000 Tri-BE18000 router.

It seems the router doesn’t perform well with the current firmware or the one before it. My bufferbloat is significantly worse, even with AI QoS turned off. I’m getting huge latency spikes under heavy load. With AI QoS turned on, it’s even worse (grade C or less). Wifi 2.4 and 6 are turned off

My GT-AX6000 performs much better and consistently delivers lower latency (grade A).

I don’t have many devices connected, just 8 mostly AX devices on 5GHz.

Not sure what’s going on. On the previous stable firmware it is the same thing.

I play mostly on Geforce Now ( at 4k120). But I can't see any report in the game statistic at all regarding my session. I should be able to see the data, no?

I’m giving myself until Tuesday if things don’t improve, I’ll return it and go for the Asus instead.

  @Kevin_Z is there anyway to go back to 1.1.6.

With 1.2.2 it's very unstable and will lose settings and cause a reboot in less than a day

the only way to downgrade was to 1.2.1, and even with that firmware, there are issues.  We can barely go a day to where it hangs.  and when we reboot, it looses it's settings, and have to reboot again and it pretty much reboots to new and have to start up fresh install.

  @PinoyDr I found quite by accident that a long press of the reset button (not sure how long it's supposed to be, it must be at least 10 seconds, but 15 - 20 seconds should do it) will get you a recovery firmware upload screen. Be-aware that you may need to set an address on the system you use to upload the firmware if a valid address hasn't yet been assigned.

I found that firmware 1.1.6 (20250317-rel 47147) is "adequate" for me in terms stability.

The 1.1.6 release 20250512-rel43911 started the decline so you don't get any of the encrypted DNS or QoS enhancements.

Note that I am unable to download a copy of the above firmware, 1.1.6 (20250317-rel 47147), because, AFAICS, it isn't available for download in my location so I can only get it via OTA update.

  @Elroy1 have used all multiple brands of router and never had these problems. the cause is 5ghz band is actually very easy if many people complain about connection ip addresses or gateway disappears then it is due to firmware update a solution is Fixers should check carefully before sharing firmware it is nice to develop new functions and so on but what good is it if those other problems are not solved or am I wrong

Hello @Pro-gamer @Elroy1, are you both experiencing similar behavior with the 5G band? If the 5G connection is lost, how do you reestablish it? Do you need to power off the GE800, wait for 10 seconds, and then power it back on?

Have you tried modifying the 5G settings as mentioned by Gogolithic, such as the channel and channel width?

Could you please specify the type of 5G devices you're connecting to the 5G network? Are they connected to the 2.4G and 6G networks stably?

@PinoyDr

You can try the downgrade procedure as suggested by raven-au, or you can check this FAQ for more detailed steps.

@Bauhaus , Are you running the provided 1.2.2 pre-release firmware or the official 1.2.1 version?

Could you please provide more details about the 'huge latency spikes under heavy load' behavior that you're experiencing? Our development team would be happy to investigate this further to determine if the firmware code needs improvement.

BTW, what gaming features do you enable on the GE800? Except for this Geforce Now ( at 4k120), do you also encounter similar latency or spikes when playing other games?

What if you connect to the 6G or MLO Network? Will you still have latency or spikes?

  @Kevin_Z

Hello,

Yes, I am running the provided 1.2.2 pre-release firmware.

I experience ping fluctuations when playing GeForce Now with Game Boost enabled. I can definitely feel the added latency. Additionally, I notice frequent packet loss roughly every 3–5 minutes. With Game Boost turned off, performance improves slightly. I also tested enabling QoS in auto mode, but it gave worse results compared to manual settings.

It would be great if we could once again manually set download and upload speeds like in the previous firmware version.

Overall, I find QoS generally unusable and unstable with this router. On my previous ASUS ROG router, it worked quite well.

Regarding gaming features, I tried enabling Game Boost for GeForce Now, but it actually made things worse due to packet loss. I also own a PS5 Pro, but I’ve lent it to my best friend for the week, so I haven’t been able to test it yet since I got the router.

Most of my gaming is done on a MacBook Pro M1 Max, mostly lighter titles. When I launch Steam, it doesn’t show up in the Game Boost Statistics. I also play Songs of Conquest online.

My primary gaming sessions are on PS5 Pro and GeForce Now (Ultimate plan).

My internet connection is 900/60 Mbps via T-Mobile in Poland.

I’m connected using PPPoE with VLAN, and the router is placed less than 2 meters from my MacBook Pro, with no walls in between.

The PS5 Pro is my only WiFi 7 capable device, but I haven’t tested it yet. Unfortunately, I don’t have any devices compatible with the 6 GHz band. My MacBook Pro supports WiFi 6 but not the 160 MHz channel width (thanks, Apple…). So no MLO yet :/ ( I wish)

I also want to say your app is really good. It’s missing some features, but it’s much cleaner compared to the ASUS one. And the router’s web interface is very responsive on mobile. Kudos to the team for that!

When playing Geforce Now in the app it doesn't appears under game center but when using Amazon Luna it does. Can we have this option? And also the icon for Geforce Now is not right, It would be great if it can be updated.

@Bauhaus

I apologize that I don't have more ideas on why it experiences latency or spikes under heavy load. Would you like to work with our engineering team to investigate this further? I believe they will have more suggestions, as they can work closely with our development team.

If you're willing to investigate further, I'll forward your case to the support engineers, who will contact you via your registered email address later. Please keep an eye on your email inbox for a follow-up.
