Model: Tapo C320WS
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.3.5

I have some Tapo Cameras and many Kasa devices. I use different TP-link accounts for Tapo devices and Kasa devices.  I want the Tapo Camera to turn on a light controlled by a Kasa switch when motion is detected. I think this can be done using 'linking Tapo and Kasa'. I logged into my Tapo account and selected 'link Tapo with Kasa'. But it came back with no available devices. This is expected as my Kasa devices are under another TP-link account. To fix this, I need to move Tapo camera and Kasa devices to the same TP-link account. Google search results say that I have to reset the devices to move it to another account. I need some help on this

1. There is no change in the wireless connection for Tapo and Kasa devices (same SSID and connection pin). Is a reset still necessary to move the device to a different account?

2. The Tapo cameras and some Kasa devices are hard to reach physically (high above ground or behind cabinets). Is the required reset a hard reset using the physical reset button on the device or a soft reset that can be done using the Kasa App or Tapo App?

3. In order to use Tapo device to trigger Kasa devices, is it a must to move Kasa devices to the Tapo account?

4. This is a side question. My current TP-link accounts are registered with Gmail IDs. I am planning a vacation to China, where Gmail is not accessible. Will that impact my ability to monitor or control my Tapo or Kasa devices from China? If yes, I may as well create a new TP-link account using Outlook Id (Microsoft email is still available in China) and move everything there.

Hi,
Please find the answers to your questions below.
  1. Performing a factory reset on a device unbinds the device from the TP-Link account. Even if the wireless settings do not change, a factory reset is necessary to move the device to a different account.

  2. You can reset the device via the Tapo/Kasa app if the device displays online and can be controlled remotely.

  3. Yes, the Kasa and Tapo devices should be bound to the same account if you want to add the automation entry for them in the Tapo app.

  4. Typically, if your phone has an internet connection, there should be no issue in remotely controlling your devices using your TP-Link account(the Gmail one) in the Tapo app, even if you are in China. However, if you use the 2FA feature or want to change the password of your account, you may be unable to receive the verification code or email sent to your email address while in China. Additionally, if you are using an Android phone, the app's notification functions may be affected due to its reliance on Google services.

Best Regards
