Model: Deco X50-DSL
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi,

I recently installed 3 Deco X50 units in different areas of my house.
The main Deco is connected to my ISP’s router, which is set to bridge mode.
All three Decos are connected via Ethernet cables to a central switch.

However, the Deco app shows that the connectivity between the units is wireless.
For a short while, it did show a wired (Ethernet) connection between two of the Decos, but then it switched back to showing wireless.

I’ve tried several removal and reinstallation attempts to get them to reconnect via Ethernet, but this has been unsuccessful.

Is there a way to force the Decos to use Ethernet backhaul?

Thanks in advance

Please make sure your network is set up using one of the examples listed below

If you already have it set up with one of the examples above please let me know which on you are already using ty

Hi and tnx for the rapid reply.
My network is set as the second diagram.
Do you happen to know whether there is a way to force the Decos to use Ethernet backhaul?

Hi, can I have the firmware version of your Deco X50?

By the way, what is the model number of the central switch here?

Did both satellite Deco X50s constantly show up as "WiFi Backhaul" on the Deco APP, or just one of them?

There hasn't been a way to force the Ethernet Backhaul. If it failed, there might be something wrong with either Deco or the Ethernet structures.

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

@David-TP My BE65 (firmware v1.1.7 Build 20250324 Rel. 32980) is no longer operating as expected. It’s designed to use Ethernet backhaul, with Wi-Fi only as a fallback. Previously, restarting all Deco units restored Ethernet backhaul. Now, it stays on wireless backhaul permanently, even after multiple restarts and correct cabling.

This is unacceptable for my setup, as the product is being used exactly as intended and marketed. Unless there’s a way to force Ethernet backhaul, I will be requesting an RMA and full refund under the NZ Consumer Guarantees Act on the grounds that the product is not fit for purpose and fails to perform to a reasonable standard.

  @ASap

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

There is a new firmware 1.2.0 ready for Deco BE65_V2, which has fixed some potential bugs of network instability.

It is recommended to install the latest 1.2.0 version to see whether it helps with the Ethernet Backhaul on Deco:

Deco BE65/BE65 Pro 1.2.0 Enhanced Mesh Network Stability and System Security

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

Thanks @David-TP. I’m not too comfortable installing a pre-release firmware on a production network. But if you can confirm that the pre-release includes an option to disable Wi-Fi backhaul (or force Ethernet only), I’d consider giving it a go — that’s really all I need.

Thanks  @David-TP. Since this issue is really disrupting our network, I went ahead and installed the 1.2.0 firmware on all Deco units. Unfortunately, the problem still persists — no change at all. I’ve rebooted all Deco units and they’re still stuck on Wi-Fi backhaul. We really need a toggle to disable Wi-Fi backhaul. If we’d known this couldn’t be turned off, we wouldn’t have gone with Deco. Our network relies heavily on wired backhaul, and the forced wireless link is making it very unstable.
