Model: Deco S4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.6.2

I moved into my "new" place and attached my NAS to a Spectrum wireless router and was able to access it via its fixed IP address.  I was never able to attach it to my Deco S4 satellites in AP mode.  Yesterday, I returned the Spectrum router and reset my satellites, attaching one directly to Spectrum's Motorola EU2255 cable modem as the replacement wireless router in that mode.  I'm now unable to access it and entering the IP address in my browser won't find it either.  I've tried restarting everything several times and even tried to bring it to an access point without success.  From what I understand, the S4 directly attached to the modem HAS to be in Wireless Router mode and CANNOT be in Access Point mode for the mesh to access the Internet.  Do I have to (re)upgrade my service to get back a wireless router that recognizes my NAS?  Or, do I have to buy the same kind of wireless router used by Spectrum and revert to all three S4 units as AP satellites?

  @Wisconthin

Hi, have you checked the IP settings on the NAS? Or have you set the NAS to use DHCP to automatically receive an IP address?

I think when Deco is in router mode, its default LAN IP range is 192.168.68.xxx, which is not in the same IP range as the fixed IP address on the NAS.

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

@David-TP Unfortunately, it's set to 192.168.1.40 and there's no way to change it without access to it.  So, it's a Catch-22:  I need to change it to make it work, but I need to make it work to change it.

Right now on Amazon, the BE3600 Wi-fi 7 wireless router is on special.  Since I can't get the identical Spectrum router except to rent it from Spectrum, will the B3600 accept 192.168.1.40?  If not, does TP-Link have one that will?  If not, can you at least point my in the right direction?

The reason why I'm looking at the BE3600 is that it SPECIFICALLY says that it is NAS compatible, while your lower-priced routers do not.

Thank you!

Re:WD EX4100 NAS wireless connectivity
Yesterday

@David-TP David - I got it.  All I had to do was the old paperclip in the reset of my EX4100 for 5 seconds and it rebooted with an IP of 192.168.68.125 and then I went into the EX4100 control panel and set that address (as good as any) to static.

Windows 11 File Explorer didn't even need new mapping!

Now, do I have to reserve this on the app or is it automatically reserved or did the S$ assign it to the EX4100 automatically?

One last thing on my wish list...is it possible to now move the EX4100 to the access point in my home office or does it have to stay at the wireless router (main S4) in my living room?

Thanks for everything and have a fantastic weekend!

@David-TP Never mind.  I moved it to the AP in my home office and it works great!  Thanks!
