Model: Tapo C210
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.4.7 build 250625 rel.55603n

My microsd card was working well for the past year.  After firmware update it does not save recordings to card anymore.  Infact i get "This card's unusually expanded capacity could jeopardize your data.  It's advised to replace the SD card."

Looking at my saved videos, it has about a month saved on the card and stops on the date after the firmware update.  "No recordings".  The card shows almost full with a few 100MB still free but no recordings are being saved.

I have to go home and see if I can format the card on another device because when trying from the Tapo app it failed.  Now it shows all videos erased and still with the "unusually expanded capacity error".

Sucks that it was working fine for so long.  And suddenly with a firmware update, it's "broken".

Seems like Tapo/tplink replies in other forums is that "your card is a fake" to everyone who is reporting this same error after the firmware update.

HOW ABOUT YOU FIX YOUR FAULTY FIRMWARE!?  That is what everyone has in common.

Hi,
It's hard to say the error message is caused by the firmware, and the camera's firmware version "1.4.7 build 250625 rel.55603n" was released in July 2025, rather than recently.

In this situation, it's recommended to confirm the following information for further analysis.
  1. Please provide the SD's model number and capacity.
  2. You can refer to the following instructions to test your SD card with a third-party software (H2testw) to check if it's a fake one. We would appreciate it if you could send us a picture of the test results.
How to Verify Fake Micro SD Cards

Usually, you can refer to the following instructions to troubleshoot if you fail to format an SD card.
What should I do if the SD card cannot be formatted/recognized?

Best Regards

What's hard to say is how you say this: "It's hard to say the error message is caused by the firmware, and the camera's firmware version "1.4.7 build 250625 rel.55603n" was released in July 2025, rather than recently"

Can you be more specific by what you mean by that.  It kind of implies that you know more than you actually know.

Hi,
Sorry for the confusion caused. I previously misunderstood your feedback, thinking the phenomenon was recently encountered. However, since firmware version 1.4.7 has been available for some time, I think the reported error is unlikely to be related to the firmware.

The firmware version 1.4.7 for the Tapo C210 does not include changes related to the SD card storage functionality. Although the "microSD card abnormal expansion capacity error" appeared after the upgrade, this does not necessarily indicate a direct correlation with the camera firmware. Typically, this error occurs due to issues with the SD card itself. Therefore, I recommend testing the SD card first.
If the SD card tests show no problems, I'll escalate the case to our tech team for further analysis.

Best Regards
