Model: Deco M4

Firmware Version: 1.8.0

Hi,

I am in the UK (If that makes a difference)!

I have a Deco mesh system set up operation with a router modem so the system works: Wall >Router>Deco M4

I want to set it up without the Router in place so the system works: Wall >Deco M4. I have bought a RJ11 to RJ45 cable to connect the Deco to the BT wall socket and set the Deco unit in Wifi Router mode. I have dynamic IP set, the IP address is correct but i just is not working!

I know it is possible to operate it but cannot find an idiots set-up guide (I need it for me!) or what I am doing wrong! Please help.

Thanks!

Hi,
In your situation, it's recommended to disconnect the Deco M4 from the wall port (RJ45), then connect a computer or laptop directly to the wall port (RJ45), and test whether it has an internet connection.

If the computer or laptop does not have an internet connection, the problem is not with the Deco.
Best Regards

Thank you for the prompt response. In the UK it is not possible connect a computer directly to the internet wall socket. It is understood that the TP-Link Deco M4 can operate as a router. I am looking for instructions on how to do this.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi,
1. If the Deco M4 has an Ethernet port connected to the internet wall socket and your internet connection type is Dynamic IP (without VLAN ID), then disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Deco M4 and connect it to a PC; the PC should have an internet connection. If not, it means there is no internet from your ISP, and the Deco M4 can't obtain internet either.

2. Below is the setup video for configuring the Deco M4.

If you fail to configure the Deco, you can refer to the instructions below to troubleshoot.

Steve I'm guessing from your description that you have FTTC over a phone line, with a BT master socket in your house.

You can't connect that directly to an M4, you would need a BT modem or a Deco model with a built in DSL modem (e.g. X20-DSL, X50-DSL or X75-DSL)

You didn't mention your ISP, but that will also play a part (especially if it is SKY) anyone else should be ok.

The other alternative is to get a OpenReach VDSL modem and plug that into your master socket and then the M4 into the network port on that.

You may also need to know your PPOE login name and password for your ISP

Hope this helps
