Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Archer AX50(US)_V1_200109

Hi,

I bought the TP-Link Archer AX50 router and was trying to set it up.

I found that the WAN internet speed is limited to only 100m, it is shown in the router admin page (said Internet Link negotiation speed in 100m full duplex). Also speed test for LAN client and Wifi client are limited to 100m only

My ISP plan is Hong Kong PCCW 1000m and I can get full 1000m speed using my old router (Archer AC1200), or directly connecting my PC to the Modem.

I am SURE all LAN cables are working properly (all Cat 6), also the Modem and computers are working properly.

I would like to ask if there are any settings needed for the WAN port run at full 1000m speed? OR is it a hardware issue?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

@BackTrack5R3

Hi, I tried to set it to 1000m instead of auto negotiation, but now the ax50 router couldn't detect the WAN port connection (said WAN port is unplugged, however if I set back to auto it could detect that but limited to 100m)

@wccccw

Hello, please try to change another ethernet cable, like cat5e or above.

And then you can reboot the router to test its performance.

Any updates, be free to let us know.

Good day.

@RJ_India

Hello, if the WAN internet speed is limited only to 100M, please check below:

1. Ensure the router firmware is up-to-date.

2. Try with another Ethernet cable, cat5e, or above.

3. Connect your modem directly to the computer and confirm you can get full 1000M.

Reply to let the community know. Good days.

Hi, for my case changing the configuration didn't work, it turned out to be a hardware defect. After visiting the service center and getting a new replacement unit, the wan port could run at 1000m speed

@RJ_India hi there, I'm facing the same issue today. I tried changing to 1000mbps duplex manually and then the internet connection stops working completely. I just bought it and I'm using the cat5e cable included in the box. Can you help advise?

Thanks!

I finally figured this out.

I upgraded my internet connection from 100Mbps to 1000Mbps and for some reason, it would be fine for a few minutes and then once other devices on the network started using the internet, everyone would be limited to 110Mbps.

QoS.

I didn't set the QoS on the router and from researching it, you can't actually turn it off.

I assumed that TP Link would be like every other company that makes routers in the world and turn QoS off by default, but not only is it on, but you literally have no mechanism to turn it off - not in the UI on the device and not by the horrific Tether app.

So, I went into QoS and turned up the Bandwidth limit to 999.9Mbps and set everything to Normal so that no devices or applications get priority over each other.

Instantly, everyone on our network here at home is getting Gigabit speeds.

Luckily, I'm pretty technical and realized that there was some kind of traffic shaping happening because every device was getting 110Mbps and decided to look in the QoS tab despite knowing that I'd never touched it when I configured the router.

This AX50 is an utter disappointment and I'm never going to buy another TP-Link product again - when you consider this absurd QoS situation, the horrible Tether app, and the fact that the AX50 was advertised as getting ONEMESH but then was quietly dropped from support, it's been a hugely disappointing experience.

I'm only posting this solution to help someone else out in the future who might run into this issue with their WAN Port seemingly being limited to 100Mbps.
