Model: Archer C6   XC220-G3v
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.13.6 Build 240430 Rel.54880n(5553)

Hi!

I have bought a TP-Link XC220-G3v (Hardware version - 2.0 and firmware updated to - 1.13.0 0.8.0 v6062.0 Build 240822 Rel.26630n from - https://www.tp-link.com/br/support/download/xc220-g3v/#Firmware) and I have a TP-Link Archer C6 (Hardware version - 4.0 and firmware version - 1.13.6 Build 240430 Rel.54880n(5553)).

I am using the XC220 as my fibre router and I want to use the Archer C6 as a satellite wireless Easy Mesh device to the XC220. I have tried everything mentioned here - https://www.tp-link.com/in/support/faq/3581/ and here - https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/653276. But it's not working. I have tried from phone using Aginet app and using the web GUI, tried to bring the routers closer, put the Archer C6 in Satelite Mode, WPS button method etc., but no help.

The Archer C6 does show up as a device -

But it fails to connect every time -

It would be amazing if anyone could help me fix this issue.

Thank you.

Hi,

Do you happen to have "Band Steering" activated on your XC220-G3v?

Note that this feature is not compatible with the "Smart Connect" of "Archer" products.

Also, the best way to connect TP-Link's "ISP" routers with "Archer" routers to build an EasyMesh network is still the WPS method.

  @woozle Thanks for your response.

I don't have band steering enabled. I like to keep the bands separate so I didn't enable it.
I have also tried the WPS method by clicking the WPS button in both routers and also choosing the WPS method and pressing the WPS button on the Archer when asked in the web UI.

But neither seemd to work. Please let me know if I did it wrong.

  @RockStar8

Another way you could try to setup the EasyMesh network is by connecting both routers via Ethernet cable.

First reset the C6 once again to factory default settings. (and do not attempt to log into the C6 afterwards!)

Then connect an Ethernet cable from a LAN port of the XC220 to a LAN port of the C6.

In case this worked, then you could disconnect the Ethernet cable and check if the EasyMesh connection changes from wired to wireless.

  @woozle I have done what you said.

After connecting the LAN cable I see this -

And after disconnecting the cable I see this -

Can you please tell me what's going on here? I don't see any devices in Easy Mesh page though.

Obviously the two routers have failed to negotiate an EasyMesh between them, no matter what method you've tried so far.

You are actually not the first person who has had problems creating an EasyMesh between one of TP-Link's made-for-ISP routers and a regular "Archer" router. Although I think most users who came here were eventually able to make it work one way or another.

I wonder if the issue still might be caused by some feature that is supported on the XC220-G3v, but not the Archer C6.

From you screenshots I see that the XC220-G3v supports "Multi-SSID". Are you currently using this feature?

Can you spot any other features, especially in the "Wireless" menu, that are activated on the XC220-G3v, but not available on the Archer C6?

Also take note of the message displayed on the "Mesh" page that reads "WPA3-Personal and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise are ...".

Okay. After checking the Aginet app it seems that doing what you asked connect the Archer C6 as a mesh device and it kept the connection even after removing the LAN cable and rebooting. But for some reason the devices that connected to the Archer A6 wifi, they kept saying no internet access also that Archer C6 signal was being shown as 0 dbm which is weird as well.

I tried the same again after resetting, but for some reason the Archer C6 cannot provide internet to the connected devices Even when connected via LAN. I think there is something fundamentally wrong with it.

So, I ended up resetting the XC220 as well and started everything from scratch. Now the Archer C6 was easily added from the Easy Mesh menu of CX220. Finally I had a little hope, but it didn't last. Even though it was now showing signal strength and devices concted to it, it didn't have interned access and none of the devices connected to it.

  @woozle After restting the XC220 I haven't changed anything except -
1. Adding PPPoE config for internet to work
2. Adding DNS 1.1.1.1 & 8.8.8.8

3. Changed the name of the 2.4 Ghz SSID to a single word.

4. Signed into the TP Link iD.

I don't think any of those should have any affect on Easy Mesh functonality.

As you can see it shows my phone connected to the Archer C6 -

But I cannot access internet on my phone.

Thank you for the help so far. I really appreciate it.

  @RockStar8

I think someone from TP-Link needs to have a look at this issue. They should be back at work on Monday.  @Joseph-TP

Hopefully someone from TP Link can understand what's going on here and help me solve the issue. I specifically bought the XC220 so that I can use the Archer C6 as an extender as both supports Easy Mesh. It would be a huge letdown if it didn't work.

Thanks a lot for all the help.

Hi  @RockStar8,

Please confirm that you have turned the guest network and multi-ssid of the main router. Prevent Archer C6 from identifying the wrong wireless network.

If the issue persists, please email support.forum@tp-link.com, attaching Forum ID 759296 and details, and we will have a dedicated person to assist in analysis and follow-up.
