Model: Tapo C200
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.17

I bought the Tapo C200 a week ago. It is working fine, but I have a huge problem with the SD card. I took a 2Gb Samsung card from another TP link camera, where it has been working fine for several months, and put it into the Tapo camera. It failed to format. I took it back to the old TPlink camera, and now it could not format there either. I checked with a Chromebook and a Windows10 PC, I tried to format the card from both, I even tried to format both with FAT and FAT32, I tested it with the recommended testsoftware and every time it came out with no problems. So the card is working absolutely fault free on all other machines, but I can still not format on Tapo c200 camera and also not on the old TPlink camera. For your information: I tried to write some files to the sd card from the PC, and after that put the card back into the Tapo camera and tried to format from there. Again I got the fault message "failed to format", but when i put the card back in the PC, I could see that everything was erased, so it looks to me that it might have formatted the card, but was unable to use it for some strange reason.

I could of course buy a new card, and then it would probably work fine, but I MUST find out why this problem occurs, because it is bound to happen again. Has anybody the same problem? Any good ideas? Because I have run through all the things mentioned from the TPlink Support Team, and nothing has helped so far... Regards Carl

@Solla-topee

I have just received a mail from TP link Support, that 2Gbyte SD cards are NOT supported, only SDHC cards from 8 Gbyte and up.

It would have been a good idea to write it somewhere in the manual, but now at least our Forum knows about it :-)

Thanks

Carl

@Carl621

More info:

I bought a 32 Gbyte sd-card and put it into the Tapo camera and it worked nicely. I took the 2 Gbyte sd-card and put it back in the Dlink camera and rebooted the camera, and then it worked fine again. So the conclusion seems to be, that the Tapo camera does not support 2Gbyte sd-cards? Can that be??

Regards Carl

@Carl621 Try some of the tools recommended on this page to check your sd card.

https://www.raymond.cc/blog/test-and-detect-fake-or-counterfeit-usb-flash-drives-bought-from-ebay-with-h2testw/

Myself, I live in Asia and I'm sure, 90% of all sd cards you can buy online are faked. Have just bought 2 cards with 128 GB, what I got is only 8 GB but of course, they are sold as 128 GB. Even if you buy the more expensive ones, it's no warranty!

Hello gboelter

As mentioned, it is a 2 Gbyte SD-card, which is not fake, and has/is running nicely in a D-link camera and on every computer I have tried. I have tested it with "h2testw", and it had no errors. So I ask again, why can it not format in a Tapo camera ????

Regards Carl
