Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.06

Hi 2 weeks ago we have installed 20 deco units around my business to increase the WiFi quality.

The units are connected in this structure

Virgin media router in modem mode - main deco in router mode - Cisco sg200 switch - 19 deco units

All the units are hardwired with ethernet to different areas of the building. Checking the logs of the switch it keeps on detecting network loops due to the wireless backhaul of the ap nodes.

The ethernet cables have been tested and are connected correctly with no breakages. Short runs less than 100m

Am I able to get some debug/beta firmware which fully disables the wireless backhaul feature of these access points. Or will I be forced to return the units for a refund

Thanks

  @jun_gats

My issue was that I tried using one main mode to control 19 sub nodes.

They're weak and can't handle the extra load

So I split it in to 4 sub networks

4 separate networks with 4 main nodes

With this many Deco devices you would be better running these in Access Point Mode where possible, especially if you have wired backbone.

IMHO having 20 nodes connected via mesh is too many, its not surprising the STP is triggering.

I have tried using access point mode aswell. It's just the fact that I can't disable the wireless backhaul.

In access point mode the wireless backhaul would be disabled, its only active in router mode.   AP mode can only communicate over the LAN connection and this should sort the issue for you.

Omada EAPs with a controller would be a better solution for you, Deco isnt really designed for the scale you are running it.

Where does it say in ap mode wireless backhaul is disabled. I've seen other posts that say it's still on

@Saftek Hi, you are right and wireless Backhaul on Deco is enabled on both Wireless Router and Access Point mode. And It could not be disabled yet.

But once the Ethernet Backhaul has finally built up, the wireless Backhaul will be idle and will not take effect.

Is there any chance to separately turn off the loop detection on the Ethernet ports that Deco units are connected to?

Thank you very much.

best regards.

I've disabled loop detection and STP and it's still unstable. Nodes drop off and on I've removed the Cisco sg200 and swapped in a tplink unmanaged Poe switch now so I'll monitor it today

Also what if I separated the nodes in to 4 different networks in ap mode behind a Asus router.

Eg 4 buildings

5 nodes on network 1      SSID 1

5 nodes on network 2.     SSID 2

5 nodes on network 3      SSID 3

5 nodes on network 4.     SSID 4

Would this work or would the nodes crosstalk to eachother

  @Saftek

Hi, Thank you very much for your time and patience.

In theory, it should work but there might be a problem.

On the latest Deco models, the Mesh nodes in the same kit are pre-configured so that after the main Deco is set up, the satellite units will automatically connect to the main unit without any configuration after powering on. So in the 5 Deco X20s, if any Deco X20 belongs to a different kit, it will automatically connect to other Deco units.

Best regards.

What did you do? I am having the same problem with X50. Main unit is not

having problems but unit 2 and 3. They have to be manually restarted. I have main and the 2nd unit wired to different switches but the 2nd and 3rd units are wired with

the same switch.
