Model: Tapo P110M
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0

Issue adding the plug to Apple Home. Getting "Unable to Pair" error.

Have tried the steps in https://www.tapo.com/au/faq/199/

  • Resetting the plug by holding the button for 10s until the LED flashes green
  • Removing Home in Apple Home and recreating.
  • Tried adding to Apple Home via iPad and iPhone
  • P110M already on latest firmware
  • iPhone and iPad both on the latest versions 17.5.1
  • Restarted both iPhone and iPad

Using Telstra Smart Modem 2 and can see the Plug is connected with IPv6 address. Can ping this address and its connected

Able to use the TP-Link Tapo and connect the Smart Plug successfully so it doesn't seem to be a connectivity issue.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

What's the Apple Matter controller you use, like an Apple TV or a HomePod? Make sure it is updated as well. You can try to restart this home hub.

Is your mobile device connected to the same 2.4GHz WiFi as the home hub during the configuration?

What's the full error message you received? Please share a screenshot of the error.

Hi Wayne,

HomePod Mini. This is updated

Is your mobile device connected to the same 2.4GHz WiFi as the home hub during the configuration?

It is a Telstra Smart Modem Gen2 which had a dual 5 and 2.4GHz Wifi. As mentioned, it works via the TP-Link Tapo app so doesn't seem to be a connectivity issue. Also can ping the device from my Mac

What's the full error message you received? Please share a screenshot of the error.

Unable to Add Accessory - Pairing with accessory failed.

  @Spada

Please try to disable 5GHz first and repair the P110M, see if that helps.

@Spada   I have had the same issue with a P110M   Just won't pair with HomeKit.  No problem getting it connected through the tapo app.

funnily enough when i first got it it did pair but then said the plug was not responding so I removed from my 'home' and started again.  Now it simply won't pair at all.

I do have an Apple TV as the hub, but it thought the matter stuff didn't require one  for Apple HomeKit connectivity?  I know the standard P110 requires a TP link hub.

anyway I am out of ideas to try and get this connected  to HomeKit

@Spada   Got mine going.  Eventually.  There was some matter 'debris' left on my iPhone. That I couldn't seem to remove. Or see.  My wife is an admin in HomeKit and set her phone to the 2.4mhz wifi network and added the accessory into Apple  HomeKit home from her phone.   Worked beautifully

Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies.

Managed to get this to work but not exactly sure how.

Reset the plug (holding the button for 10s) then added back and it worked. Had tried this previously unsuccessfully so must've been something else as well.

A couple of suggestions in case anyone else wants to try

1. I have the Telstra Smart modem which is dual band 2.4 and 5Ghz. This worked for other devices and the Tapo app so it's able to route devices accordingly. I wanted to test using the 2.4G guest mode but enabling this disabled the 2.4G of the main Wifi and broke connectivity of my other 2.4G devices. Had to enable it again. Don't know if this change something in the modem

2. Restarted the modem. Accidentally knocked the modem power and restarted it.

3. Upgraded to firmware 1.2 from 1.1. This didn't fix the issue when trying to add again but might be required before a device reset?

Good luck to anyone else who has the same issue

Are you a shared user of this Apple Home?

@Wayne-TP   My account is the owner of the home and my wife has full admin rights allowing here to add and edit accessories.  She added the plug fine.  The issue for me was a prior linking of the device to my iPhone.... I couldn't add it again, nor unlink it properly.
