Can the Tapo C520WS be hardwired for power or does it need to be connected to a socket? I don't have easy access to a socket where I would like to place it.

The Tapo C520WS does not support being powered via PoE. Typically, it's connected to the power adapter plugged into a power socket to work. The length of the power cord is 3m, and you can check if it's suited for your usage scenario.
